Do I have to make a new book?

Yes. Please do not submit existing, previously written stories. We are only accepting one entry per user, so choose one prompt from each level wisely.

We are not accepting fanfiction or poetry.

Why is Fanfiction not accepted?

This contest is meant to be a celebration of authentic Asian & Pacific Islander culture. Fanfiction is typically fetishized dramatizations of Asian & Pacific Islander culture that do not accurately reflect their values and beliefs. The APIFantasy Team is committed to ensuring we do not feature stories that contain harmful representations of Asian & Pacific Islander cultures, while encouraging those not familiar with these cultures to conduct necessary research and ask questions if they're unsure about the API representation in their work(s).

Does it have to be 1,500 words and do I need to write a single chapter only?

Unless you have purchased an item from the Medicine Deity's Chamber and it has been verified by APIFantasy, the word limit is that and not over. You are expected to write a new chapter for each Level. Author notes, playlists, book trailers, glossaries, or anything else non-literary does not count towards the maximum word count.

Prologues, epilogues, and bonus chapters will count, so use your words wisely!

How do I earn years of cultivation?

If you qualify for a Checkpoint, you will receive years of cultivation based on the total number of points you receive throughout the contest. That scoring system is outlined below and is based on our team's judging rubric:

Level 1: 12 Points or More = 1,000 years of cultivation

Level 2: 25 Points or More = 2,000 years of cultivation

Level 3: 37 Points or More = 4,000 years of cultivation

Level 4: 50 Points or More = 8,000 years of cultivation

Level 5: 62 Points or More = 16,000 years of cultivation

Level 6: 75 Points or More - 32,000 years of cultivation

Level 7 (Bonus): flat reward of 4,000 years of cultivation

Level 8 (Bonus): flat reward of 8,000 years of cultivation

Level 9 (Bonus): flat reward of 12,000 years of cultivation

You will also receive 1,000 years of cultivation for every Level you successfully complete and submit before the Checkpoint deadline.

How does the Medicine Deity's Chamber work?

The years of cultivation you acquire from each Checkpoint will allow you to purchase items, so it's important to submit via the submission form when it's available and to do so before the deadline.

If there's an item you would like to beef up your entry, visit APIFantasy to claim your item. You can only request items via the shop form on APIFantasy. Any requests made on other profiles or via email will not be processed.

All items are one-time use only. Be sure to read the instructions for each item carefully before purchasing. Refund requests are not accepted.

Does my story have to be in English?

Any entries written in the following languages will be accepted: English, Spanish, Korean, and Thai.

Can I change the details of the prompt I've chosen? Can I mix prompts?

Modifications to the prompt are permitted if the chosen prompt is still recognizable. You cannot reuse/rewrite an older story for this contest, its date of publication must not precede this contest. Entries that combine prompts will be disqualified. You must choose one prompt per level.

My spiritual root has been critically injured. How do I fix it so I don't lose years of cultivation?

Does it matter which Yao Grass I use?

Yes, each offers a different effect. If you use the Yao Grass from Taishi Mountain on a Rākshasa, they will continue to chase you and you will lose years of cultivation. Please ensure you are purchasing the correct Yao Grass. The Medicine Deity's Chamber offers careful instructions, and if you are uncertain about something, you are always welcome to ask APIFantasy.

Can I do a co-written story with someone?

Yes, you can! However, if you choose to publish on both your profiles, be aware that we can only add one story to our respective reading lists, not both.
