Dusk and Dawn

Together.
As they spoke, dusk turned to dawn. The deep purple of the sky seeped through, in a chromatography of blue and orange. Letting himself loose in Lan Zhan's embrace, Wei Ying summoned the last dregs of his remaining energy. "Hold me tight,"
In a flash of an eye, they were back in the inn. Neither were particularly sober, neither were truly asleep either. "Stay, " this time, the Second Jade spoke up, repeating the words like a mantra.
"Wei Ying, stay." As if they were back in Gusu, that fateful night neither had ever shared. No one else would ever know. "I'm here. I'm staying, Lan Zhan."
Flashing back to that day.

"Stay?"
"I can't."  The wind blew hard that night, as cold as it'd ever been since Wei Wuxian got here's. Since a grey-eyed boy crashed his way into Lan Wangji's life, filling him with warmth, with emotions he'd never felt before that both terrified and exhilarated him, the coldest night since a stoic gilt-eyed Jade made his way into Wei Wuxian's heart, despite being complete opposites. Since they'd found each other.
Subconsciously, Lan Zhan leaned forward, his hands raised, as if to cup his face- how he wished he could. Instead, he let his hand flutter down, staring deeply into the other's onyx eyes. His face was a beauty to behold, and Lan Zhan could have sworn he'd memorise each and every detail if he could. The slight splatter of freckles, the way his lips curled when he smiled or when he broke into a grin, the way his mouth looked sometimes, when gaping open. He wanted nothing more than to kiss Wei Ying into oblivion. But at the thought of this, the flame in his heart sputtered, and his confidence faltered. And his hear chipped away, shattering, as the solemnity of the words fell upon his teenage mind.

His eyes were a question, one Wei Ying found endearing, but at the same time heartbreaking. Oddly enough, he'd never needed words to communicate with him, not when he could hear his thoughts as clearly as his own. "Why not? "
"I'm leaving for Yunmeng. Our times here are over, remember?"
For the second time in his life, Lan Wangji found himself at an utter loss for words. Silently, Wei Wuxian stepped up to him- "Lan Zhan?"
No reply.
Leaning closer towards him, Wei Ying's heart brimmed with warmth, with an overwhelming compulsion to do something- anything, so he'd stop looking like that. Taken by a sudden frenzy, he brought their lips together, kissing him with as much passion as he could, as slowly as he could. The other stayed frozen in shock. Letting his lips linger on Lan Zhan's one more time, Wei Ying pulled apart, his heart falling as quickly as it rose, into desolate shatters that was quickly replaced by an odd embarrassment.
"I'm sorry, Lan Zhan,"
"I guess this is goodbye."

Stubbornness shone in his eyes, and the other couldn't help but chuckle at the memory. He'd almost forgotten this. Almost.  His heart ached at the sight.  But enough of the past. "I'm here now, aren't I?" he asked, more to himself than anything else.
"Here." Lan Zhan affirmed. "I'm so sorry-"
but before he could continue, he found himself cut off by a pair of lips. The familiar scent of Sandalwood wafted through his senses, and he suddenly felt giddy. As their lips intertwined, he could feel the love behind it, the passion, slow and tantalizing, like some kind of forbidden fruit. But there was also unwavering honesty, straightforwardness, and reassurance. For the first time in awhile, he was finally home.

Some day, the world is going to fade away.
We'll all meet our end.
Nothing is permanent, everything is temporary.
But some things barely change.
My love for you isn't one of them,
But my feelings are.
I love you more with each passing day.
You make my fears fade away.
You give me a place to stay.
Grant me strength, grant me courage.
I love you as the stars loved the moon, as the sun loved the day.
I loved you recklessly, I loved you carefully, in all the ways I ever could.
You were my light at the end of the tunnel,
My truth and my partner.
Through this, I promise you my love, my company,
Now, always and forever.
