it had been two weeks since marina and her family moved to new york. the bakery had opened a week after they moved in, and it wasn't packed, but it was busy, a bit in the middle. marina was looking out the window longingly, watching people walk by from outside, while her mother and two siblings worked away. she was so caught up in her daydream, she didn't hear markus calling her. "marina!!" marina yelped, bumping her head on the wall beside her. "huh??" she asked, looking over at her brother. "i've been calling you for two minutes, what's up?" he asked after rolling his eyes. "nothing. i'm just thinking." she says quickly, shaking her head. "hun, you've been looking outside for a while. did you want to go explore?" her mother asked gently, blinking as she wiped her hands. "a little. i just saw some newsboys and got distracted." marina mumbled, blowing out some air. "alright, but go and enjoy yourself out there, and don't get lost-!" her mother called after her, as marina got up, running to her little picnic basket, and grabbing it, waving to her mother as she went outside. as she pulled her hood over her head, she hummed softly, walking through the crowd, before making it to a clearing place, her eyes widening.

as she walked through the space, she passed a group of newises. some whistled when she walked pass, making her sigh, shaking her head. as she looked back at them, to see them still whistling at her, she gave them a glare that had 'the hell do you want' written over it. "aye! he's starin' at ya!" marina blinked, looking at where some of them were pointing. she saw a little blondie, with bright blue eyes, and pale skin. his cheeks were a light red, with a shy lopsided grin. he was kinda cute, to be honest. as her face heated up, her lips curled into a small smile, walking over to him slowly. "hi." she hummed softly, making him gulp nervously. "m-me?" he asked quickly, making her giggle at his nervousness. "yes, you." marina answered, as the blonde rubbed the back of his neck. "u-uhm-charlie. people call me crutchie." he said nervously, his face still red as he hanged onto his crutch. "marina. i don't have a nickname, yet." marina shrugged, smiling lightly.

the next few minutes were spent with them getting to know each other, making jokes, and exchanging phone numbers as well. "ah-! my mom is probably waiting for me-rush hour-" marina says quickly. "here-" marina then grabbed a cookie from her picnic basket, handing it to him, before turning on her heel. "my mom's bakery is down the street! come visit it when you have the chance-!" she says quickly, looking at him, and blowing a kiss. and just like that, she left, her heels clicking softly on the sidewalk. for a few seconds, she heard cheering, and taunts from the rest of the newsboys, but the most voice that stood out was charlie's, who was telling them his smile reeled her in. and honestly, it did.
