"So, now what?" asks Jason. I told him, Eddie, and Skye what happened between Sierra and I at lunch. School is out for the day, and we sit on the grass by the bus round about.

"I dunno," I reply. "I just wish that it hadn't happened today!"

"But it did happen, and we can't change that," Skye pitches in, leaning back into Jason's chest. He wraps one arm around her torso and uses the other to brush hair away from her face. "So we have to find a way to make it up to her."

"Yes, but what? We only have until tomorrow after school. Ugh, it just feels like the party is ruined!" I groan. I recline until my back rests on the grass. It's very soft. It's also tempting to lie here forever instead of facing life's problems.

Eddie pipes up. "Not necessarily. Maybe that's how we make it up to her."

I look at him from my reclined position, squinting. "Explain."

"Well, since it upset her when you didn't tell her what you and Skye were talking about, maybe we tell her. Tomorrow. At the party. We continue with the plan, she comes home from school as usual, everyone surprises her, and you and Skye approach her after things have calmed down. You can talk it out. Who knows? Maybe she has been having a bad day, and a day to cool off plus a surprise birthday party is just the thing she needs to enjoy herself and make up with you."

The four of us sit in silence, mulling this over. Eddie has probably come up with the best plan we could think of. Finally, Jason says, "I think we should give it a go." Skye nods then looks to me.

"Sometimes I can't stand you, Eddie, but other times I'm really glad you're my friend. I think you're the wisest one here." He laughs, then smiles at me. I smile too. "Let's do it, and hope for the best."

We get up to leave. Jason and Skye walk off, holding hands. Eddie starts to walk towards his bus, but I call him back. "Eddie!"

He turns to look at me. "I'm really sorry about being short tempered with you at lunch. I shouldn't have been so demanding about the posters. I guess I'm just stressed about getting this party right."

"Thanks," he replies, surprised. Then, a little stronger, "Apology accepted."  Apologies don't come from me as often as they should. I need to get better about that. After a moment of awkward silence, he says, "Um, I guess I'll see you tomorrow, then?"

"Er, yes! Bye!" I turn and walk towards my house. He boards the bus, which starts on its route. I sigh, hoping that tomorrow ends up being a better day than today.
