Having lived through much of the history I was teaching, I brought it upon myself to tell the students about Sacredoon, and the keys that hid its location from view. This became my undoing, as one of my students confessed in private that his family, like the Peverell's, had come from Sacredoon and had been chosen to protect one of the keys.

To say that my obsession was renewed would be the understatement of a lifetime. Once I learned of their family key, I abandoned everything in pursuit of my former quest. Not Albus, not even Perenelle, could stop me from obtaining the key and returning to the seas. Since only the boy's family Animagus could access the tomb of the key's resting place, I learned how to become an Animagus myself in the form of a firefly and traveled with him to retrieve it.

When I was given the key, I vanished from Hogwarts and pursued my passion with renewed vigor. Even with a wizarding war being waged all around me, I cared for nothing but Sacredoon and went to the Apothecary to pack. Thankfully, I did not get far. The Fondatori were lying in wait on Diagon Alley for one of the Dark Force Defense League to return to their shops. With such singular focus, I left myself unprotected and was captured.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, Argyle Gregorovitch had closed his shop and was constructing custom wands, harvesting wand cores that he had pilfered through gambling. Through these means, he gained access to the Elder Wand, which had somehow made its way back into existence from the Peverell family. Proud of its unparalleled abilities, Gregorovitch exhibited its power to new clients and the wand was soon stolen by Grindelwald the Many.

It was the Elder Wand that was my ultimate downfall. When Gellert found me, the wizard who had taken Albus from him, walking Diagon Alley alone, he ensnared me with ease. When I woke, I found myself in a chamber at Blutreich — the stronghold of the Fondatori, and one of Grindelwald's greatest architectural achievements. It seemed, for the moment, that he wanted to keep me safe and alive, to use me as bait so that Albus Dumbledore, his old friend, would be forced to face him once again. What Grindelwald did not know was that none of them were expecting my return. He was unaware that Perenelle and the Dark Force Defense League had lost all hope in me, due to my discovery of the lost key of Sacredoon, and would not be coming to my rescue.

During my captivity, Grindelwald rose to new heights of power. I heard a great many speeches given in the courtyard at Blutreich and saw firsthand the terrible things the Fondatori would do to their pure-blood captives. Gellert delighted in showing me his plans for the Muggle people. Using the Elder Wand, he created an army of Inferi and gathered wild dragons to the caves below the stronghold. Time was running out, and I learned that if the League did not act soon, his forces would be too strong to overcome.

But then something peculiar happened at Hogwarts. A monster was released, a student was killed, and Vindictus Viridian went missing. Certain that Gellert Grindelwald had been the one responsible, and learning from Gregorovitch that he had obtained one of the Deathly Hallows, Albus Dumbledore traveled alone to Blutreich. He single-handedly bested the forces of the Fondatori and discovered that I was being held captive. And then Grindelwald stepped out from the shadows.

I witnessed the duel between them, and it was the stuff of legend. On that day, in the shadows of a rapidly ruined stronghold, Albus Dumbledore revealed to me all the power I believed he had hidden within him. And it took all his heart, all his might, to take down his once close friend and partner. Within the massive opus of construction that was Grindelwald's kingdom of structures was a duel unlike any that had ever been seen. But Albus won the day after tapping into a new confidence and skill that he had learned from spending so much time with the young students of Hogwarts, skills his foe had never known. He delivered Grindelwald personally to Nurmengard to detain the evil dictator in a labyrinthine prison of his own design.

Albus freed me from the stronghold, along with the other imprisoned wizards. He searched in vain for Vindictus Viridian, and I assured him that his name had never been mentioned. Unaware of why Viridian had gone missing, we were relieved to know that the rebellion had ended. Grindelwald was defeated and Albus had the one Deathly Hallow I had never been able to possess — The Elder Wand.

Upon our return to Hogwarts, I stepped down as professor and retreated to our cottage in Devon, while the Dark Force Defense League was widely celebrated by wizarding youth and quickly immortalized in comic book form. I tattooed myself as a reminder of my obsession with Sacredoon, and the temptation I would need to overcome.

In secret, Perenelle and I, with the rest of the Dark Force Defense League, kept evil sorcery at bay and hunted down the remaining Fondatori, never forgetting the loss of Vindictus Viridian, and always respecting the power of the most magical among us, no matter their age.
