I woke up on my couch. It was the next day. I saw him standing over me, watching as if to make sure nothing happened. I came back home to gather things and I must've fell asleep.

"Elijah?"

"Hello, darling." He smiled.

He touched his hand to my cheek and held it there.

"Elijah," I smiled. "Thank you."

"He was going to kill you. I didn't have a choice-"

"I know." I said, taking his hand off my cheek. "Elijah there's something you should know."

"What is it?"

"I'm what you would call an anchor."

"Anchor? I don't understand."

I sat up and looked him in his eyes as he sat next to me.

"I hate to drop this on you now, but an anchor is a link. To the other side. Where supernatural beings go when they die. When one dies, they go through me to get to the other side."

Elijah gave me a strange look, "Go through you? I'm not sure I understand.."

"I feel their death basically. I'm the ticket to the other side. Every stab wound, burn to death torchere, anything it is, I feel it. It's extremely painful."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"So that you know, I'm not exactly human."

"That doesn't change how I feel about you," He touched my cheek again, but this time, I didn't push him away. I let him. He leaned in slowly, unsure of his choice, I reassured it by leaning in and kissing him.

When I pulled back, I smiled. But my smiled faded when I saw someone standing behind him. It was another victim of a gruesome death. I stood up. Elijah stood up with me.

"Who are you?" I asked, sincerely.

"My name is David. Where am I? Am I dead?" His voice started to get a hint of panic.

I approached David softly and smiled gently.

"You're going to be ok. You won't feel any pain," I said. "Don't worry,"

"Y/n, what's going on?"

"This is part of the job," I looked back and gave a quick smile and returned to comforting David.

"Find peace." I said.

I laid my hand on his shoulder. When he disappeared, it felt as if every bone in my body shattered. I fell to the ground screaming in pain. Elijah rushed to my side and helped me up. The pain was gone.

"What was that?"

"That's what being an anchor is like," I said, while still trying to recover my breathing.

"Why? Why do you have to go through such pain so that others can find peace?"

"I chose this. So that a friend of mine could live. A deal situation."

"No one should have to go through that pain,"

"I should. Elijah, there are things that I've done, that I'm surprised I'm even alive."

"But you go through that along with an abusive father."

"He's not dead.."

"What?"

"He has the ring."

"Of course,"

"Where is he?"

"I left him there."

"He should be waking up any minute."

I began to look at my dad but he guided my eyes back to him.

"Stay with me," He said with hope in his eyes. "Stay with me in New Orleans and we can have a future together."

"Elijah, I can't just leave him here."

I began to look again, but again, he took my eyes away.

"He deserves everything he gets."

I thought for a long moment. My father started to wake up. I looked deeply into Elijah's eyes.

"Ok."

We began to walk out the door but then my father held my arm.

"You're not going anywhere."

Elijah forcefully took his arm off mine in a death grip sort of way.

"You are to let her go. You won't follow us or I will tear off your fingers, not including the one with the ring on your finger, so I can kill you over and over again. Painfully. Slowly. I think you get the memo?" Elijah threatened.

My father nervously nodded his head.

I ran out the door with Elijah following me. I was going to start a new life in New Orleans with Elijah. Despite what Klaus had to do or say. I love Elijah.
