Godaigo reveals himself to be the mysterious benefactor for he intends to seize the power of the dark God for himself to solidify his waning influence over the shogunate police and return his failing kingdom to its former glory. He reveals that it was he who had created the supernatural hindrances on their journey having no remorse even for his daughter's life much to Nozomi's dismay and utter shock. Shingen asks for clarification about him being of the royal bloodline when Godaigo recounts the tale of how Shingen was the rightful heir of the Heishi kingdom whose members were enlisted to protect the secrecy of the famed artifacts but robbed of his inheritance. Godaigo further divulges that Shingen and Nozomi were the children of Yoritomo and the sole surviving heirs to the Heishi kingdom while he was a mere general in Yoritomo's army who orchestrated the entire machinations. After staging a political coup by colluding with other military generals Godaigo defamed Yoritomo's reputation and took the throne for himself and alienated Shingen as a pariah but kept a close eye on him ever since. It was no wonder that Shingen was recruited by him in his army to have the sole royal blood progeny at his disposal for any future use.
