Lionpaw crouched down, flattening his tail. He swiveled his ears, listening to the rustles in the grass and whispers in the wind. He leapt, pouncing. The mouse let out a squeak before Lionpaw gave it a short nip to the back of the neck, killing it instantly.

Lionpaw looked down upon his prey, worrying that it was the first thing he'd caught. Earlier, he'd tried to catch a vole but the measly thing had slipped through his claws. Lionpaw raised his tail, sniffing the air again.

That was when it hit him, the overwhelming stench of squirrel. He turned, sniffing. The odour was coming from a patch of brambles, where the silly thing was looking around for some nuts. Lionpaw flattened himself to the ground, remembering what his mentor had taught him, and pounced. His claws dug into the flesh of the squirrel, killing it. Lionpaw carried his prey and hid it under some plants, deciding to carry on and check another area for more prey.

Lionpaw continued on, sniffing to try and find some more prey. He would soon be a warrior, if everything went as expected. It was his warrior assessment, and he would make his clan proud. But what he knew about Whisperstone, the things he had seen- they made worry prickle at his claws. What if Whisperstone didn't make him an apprentice because of what he'd seen? As rgeee thoughts plagued Lionpaw's mind, he stepped on a twig. The harsh sound echoed around, startling a fat pigeon that he hadn't even noticed.

Silently he cursed himself. He sniffed again now, knowing he really couldn't afford anymore mistakes. He suddenly pinpointed the unmistakable tang of rabbit, and his mouth watered slightly at the scent of it. He flattened himself to the ground, preparing a chase. Rabbits were fast and persistent creatures, but if he caught one he'd surely be made into a warrior. His eyes scanned the bracken, focusing on the murky brown beast chewing on some yarrow. He struck, fast and suddenly, before the rabbit even had time to notice him, digging his fangs into its neck. He felt it stiffen and stop, and he admired his catch, it was a large rabbit, and enough to feed the clan.

Satisfied, Lionpaw headed back to camp, dragging his rabbit and his other catches behind him.

Soon, he padded into camp, were Dewpaw awaited him. "Wow! Your assessment clearly went well." She mewed, eyes shining. Lionpaw, however, couldn't think about the rabbit. His mind was back on Whisperstone and the pigeon he'd missed. He could still hear the thunderous beat of its wings in his ears, the crack of the twig as it broke and startled the bird-

"Are you okay?" Asked Dewpaw, her eyes laced with concern. Her mew jogged him from his train of thought. "You caught a huge rabbit! I'm sure you have nothing to worry about."

Lionpaw shook his head, though he felt glad that Dewpaw was trying to help. "You don't understand, I messed up. I missed a vole, it went right past me, and a big fat bird as well, I-"

"Oh please," Dewpaw cried, letting out a mrrow of amusement. "Look at you! You caught a massive rabbit, and a squirrel, not to mention a mouse! You've got nothing to worry about. You're an excellent hunter, and if Whisperstone can't see that he's an idiot. You'll make an absolutely brilliant warrior, Lionpaw."

And with that Lionpaw let out a small sigh of relief, licking his chest in embrassment, and feeling warmth at Dewpaw's' kind words. "Thanks Dewpaw," Lionpaw replied with a smile, relaxing for the first time in ages.

Day 250, 13:12

The cat, Subject #13, the cream tom with hazel eyes was seen to be hunting while his apparent mentor, Subject #17 followed. I believe this to be similar to the Warrior assessments mentioned in books. After Subject #13 talked to Subject #16. More research needed but I believe a full mentor system with warrior assessments is in place.
