I sat down on the floor scanning the pictures on my wall. Everything from soccer in the first grade to graduation. Hundreds of pictures on the wall mostly of me and Anabella.

Who sent this necklace? Why now? What in the actual fuck?! I make my way outside hoping the fresh air will help.

Dad walks out back just as I'm lighting a joint. I try and fail to hide it from his view. He lets out a laugh and grabs it from hands inhaling quite quickly.

"You didn't really think you were fooling me did you sis?" He says grinning from ear to ear.

"Well I mean I never really tried to hide it, I just didn't really want to do it right in front of you."

"Oh baby girl, a little weed never hurt anyone. I grew up in the 70s dear this is nothing I haven't seen before."

He walks over and sits in the chair next to mine. He is average height and doesn't tower above me. His once light brown hair is now mostly grey. I can see his age now more than ever.

"Dad, have you ever messed up? Like really really messed up? Something you can't fix?"

He stares at me only for a moment . "I have done a lot of things that are really messed up. Why?"

"No reason really. I was just asking."

We sit in silence for the next few minutes. The evening went by fairly quick. I was just about to head upstairs when someone knocked on the door.

"Can you get that hunny?" My mom yelled from the other room.

I walked to the door and opened it without considering who might be on the other side. My jaw almost hits the floor when standing right here in front of me is none other than Jordan Helt. Standing at just over six feet tall. He looks different but not different enough for me not to immediately recognize him. One thing has changed, as Jordan stands in front of me now he has a uniform, a badge, and a gun. I had no idea he had become a cop. I step outside and shut the door. Neither of us had said anything and I'm unsure why he would be here.

"Allie Baker." He looks surprised.

"Jordan Helt." I see the corners of his mouth fold into a smile. This is fun for him.

"When did you get back. I just ran into Elliott and he said you were home."

"Oh well I'll have to remember to thank him. Did you stop by just to see if I was really here or..."

"Yeah I umm, I um yeah. You left so fast and I never really got to say goodbye. I didn't contact you because I didn't figure you would want to talk to me anyway. When I found out you were back I had to come see you. I had to come apologize I never got the chance before." The look on his face was agonizing. Why hadn't he moved on? Maybe he did and is being a total tool for being here on my porch instead of at home where he should be.

"It's fine. It was so long ago now. So much had happened since then I don't have any hard feelings. Shouldn't you be with your wife or girlfriend somewhere?" I try to play it cool but I definitely failed. His grin reappears and he is strikingly handsome.

"I don't have a wife, or a girlfriend and I should actually be at work. I only stopped by to talk to you. I should probably get going, but do you think I could take you to dinner before you leave?"

"Maybe Helt, maybe." I walked back inside and my lovely mother must have been listening to us. She is jumping up and down giddy at what she had heard. She is always looking for an opportunity that might make me stay here.
