*Nathan's POV (Leader/Alpha)*

3... 2... 1... GO!!!

Before I knew it I was already running. Running like my life depended on it but really the race was only for fun. I ran faster than I had ever run before, the wind whistled in my ears and blew through my fur and suddenly I got the chills but the chills only lasted a second, only for a split second. My pack was gaining on my tail... on my paws. I didn't dare look back, if I looked back I knew I was bound to run into something and lose my place in first.

A tan wolf with black streaks was running by my side, I knew who it was but it couldn't be. Spirit. My love, she ran faster than me and was soon in first. I try to catch up to make my paws run faster but they couldn't. Spirit was already 5 feet in front of me and the finish line was coming up quick. I needed to win but it was impossible. How did she get in front of me when she was the one to countdown and she was in her human form.

She looked back at me for a split second but then she tripped over her own paws and did a summersault, she started the whimper but I couldn't bring myself to stop and check on her, my paws kept running and my brain told me she would be fine and that it was probably a sprain. My heart said I loved her and I needed to stop but I couldn't.

I raced past her in an attempt to come in first place but then my human side kicked in and I halted to a stop immediately. My wolf was starting to scold me because I stopped running. My wolf side was always the competitive side of me and my human half was always the compassionate side. I looked back at Spirit and she waved me off.

'Keep running, Nathan. I'll be fine.'  Spirit said inside my head and I nodded.

'Okay but I'm coming back for you after the race' I said to Spirit inside her head and she nodded back in understanding.

I continue to run as of my life depended on it, the finish line was a half mile away from me and I still somehow remained in first place. At the very end of the race I ran as fast as my paws would go until finally, I crossed the finish line with a big smile on my face. My smile quickly faded as Spirit came to mind. I ran back to where I had left her and when I got there she was nowhere to be found.

It was like she disappeared and vanished into thin air.

*Spirit's POV*

Keep running, Nathan. I'll be fine.'  I said to Nathan as I laid on the ground in pain.

'Okay but I'm coming back for you after the race'  Nathan said in my head and I nodded back in understanding.

After that was said I saw him run faster than he had before and he actually seemed happy for once. I knew he always loved running and racing, how could I keep him from something that he loves. Once he was out of sight I could feel someone behind me even though the person or wolf was a few feet away. I felt him walk closer to me and I turned around trying to get a good look at them but the guy was with a girl that I knew from somewhere and she lifted up her foot and kicked me in the face.

And then the next thing I knew, everything went black and I passed out.
