Akæna~

I smiled brightly down at my world, my world full of dinosaurs! Pterodactyls flew high in the beautiful sky while tricerotopses grazed far below my over hang. I glanced into the trees surrounding the herd of tricerotops and my eyes found the brown skin of a vilocirapter. I shook my head, scared for the young but I couldn't deny a hard working dinosaur it's well deserved meal.

Then the vilocirapter struck, darting at a newborn tricerotops. It made it halfway before an older male charged at it, his head lowered to impale the predator.

The rapter leapt and caught the crest of the older tricerotops' horns in it's talons and leaned forward to claw and bite at it's neck.

The tricerotops wheeled and bucked, it charged back to the rest of the herd and grunted for help. The herd obliged and closed in a circle around the two dinosaurs, trying to get rid of the rapter.

The vilocirapter shreaked and growled at the herd, it's black eyes full of panic. Then it jumped off the tricerotops and dodged between two others before sprinting back into the cover of the trees.

The newborn was crying for it's mother and it looked either blind or had it's eyes closed because it was scrambling around like a blind idiot.

I smiled as the tricerotops that had saved the newborn go to it and gently push it in the direction of a female who still looked to carry milk.

I turned away and started trudging down the over hang and toward my hut. I had to pass through a small line of trees before reaching the edge of the lake whose shore held my home. My hut was simple; some wooden walls, a sand and dirt floor, wood and palm leaves as the roof, and simple stones that lead to the door like steps, each a little higher than the other. There was a small wooden door and inside was a stone covered in leaves and sand and dirt with a worn blanket and a small dugout spot where I store my left overs for the next day. And I was quite intent with my home.

I entered through the door and closed it softly then, looking through a small crack in the roof, I saw the sun begin to set so I shrugged to myself and sat on the stone that served as my bed. I was tired but I never slept until the moon was at it's highest, only then would I be safe from any curious predators. I had learned that the predators hated the moon when it's highest because it gave off to much light and enabled their prey to spot them quite a ways away.

As I waited I checked how much food I had in the dugout, a day's worth at least I thought it was a day's worth.

Then I laid down on the stone and pulled the blanket to my chin, I watched through the crack as the sky turned black and stars started popping up. Soon the moon was high and I was finally able to close my eyes and drift off to sleep.

------------|----{~Dream~}----|------------

I was surrounded by remote blackness, darkness, shadows.  My feet weren't on solid ground which scared me half to death and my entire being seemed to get more and more exhausted the longer I floated there.

Then a voice whispered, "they're coming."

"W-who? Who's coming? Who are you?" I called out, my voice cracked and was loose from not talking or interacting with other humans for half my life.

"Patience, child, patience. I am Eve, Goddess of all of extinction and extinct creatures and plants." The voice seemed to shake the black by just speaking.

"I'm... I'm..." I hadn't spoken my name in so long that it seemed like a fading memory but I caught it before it disappeared completely. "Akæna. I am Akæna," I repeated my name several times in my head.

"Akæna? Ah, yes, that sounds familiar... Now, I need you to stop these killers from destroying my... Our island." Goddess Eve told me in a harsh but seemingly kind tone, almost like she was smiling.

"Yes, Goddess of all of extinction." I bit my tongue to keep it from twisting and messing up my words.

"Good, now go, Akæna. Go!"

------------|----{~Awake~}----|------------

I jerked up, sweat pouring down my forehead and dripping into my eyes, stinging them. I wiped the sweat away and pushed the blanket off.

Then I heard a screech and jumped off my stone bed and reached into a long shelf I had carved out from my stone bed. My fingers closed around the familiar wood of my spear and bow and arrows. I pulled them out, strung the bow, and took the spear and a few arrows then I headed out the door. On the lake was a large rowboat with four men and two boys aboard it, a red and white pterodactyl was attacking them.

I ran into the shallows and loosed an arrow aimed at it's eye but it moved and the arrow bounced harmlessly off it's beak. That got it's attention. It dove at me, it's beak wide. I stumbled backwards, landing in the sand. I brought me feet up and kicked it's beak down, it flipped and rolled onto the sand above my head. I rolled to my feet and grabbed my spear, I jumped onto it's head, trying to secure it's beak. The sharp edges of it cut into my palms and knees as I forced it shut. Then I pulled my spear up and stabbed it in the neck, it flapped the grew still.

I sighed and fell backwards, at least I had breakfast. I closed my eyes for a moment them I remembered the people and my eyes shot open. I scrambled to my feet and grabbed my weapons then I pulled the carcass into my hut before turning to them. They were almost upon the sand and so I waded forward in the water and held out my free hand.

One man with a small brown beard and curly brown hair with matching eyes stared at my hand before realizing what I wanted. He grabbed a rope conected to the boat and tossed it into my hand.

I turned and began pulling the boat up the sand, it was hard and painful but I did it. I dug a small hole and placed the remaining rope into it before burying it to keep the boat from leaving. Then I turned back to them as they were getting out.

The same man who had given me the rope walked forward, bowing his head in respect. "I... Am... Chris... Can... You... Understand... Me?" He spoke slowly like he was talking to some spanish idiot.

"Why are you here?" I asked in my crackly and uneven voice.

Chris looked both relieved and disappointed, "we're exploring, what's your name?"

"Tell me all of yours first," I demanded, I didn't trust them not after that dream I had.

"Well, I'm Chris, that's Zenix," he pointed at one of the boys, he had black hair and tanned skin, his eyes were bright green. "That's Mikado," he pointed at the other boy, he had blond hair with sunburnt skin and blue eyes. "That's Charles," Chris pointed at an auburn haired man with no traces of a beard or mustache, he had pale skin and brown eyes. "That's Soran," he pointed at a blond man with a mustache and brown eyes. "And that's Willie," he pointed at the last man who had black hair and blue eyes with a thick beard and tan skin.

"I am Akæna. What do you want?" I asked, keeping deathly calm which, I knew, made them nervous.

"Just to wait here for a couple days then we'll leave. I promise." Chris explained and I thought about it for a moment.

Then I raised my spear and placed the tip under his chin, "if you even think of telling the mainland about my island then I will personally ripped your head off, got it?" I remained calm, I knew I'd keep my threat if I learn they had done it.

Chris grew pale, his eyes searched my face but he didn't seem to find what he was looking for. "Yes, yes, yes!"

"Good, stay here. I must gather food and water." I glared at them before turning and strutting to my hut, I threw my bow and arrows in then set off toward the forest to find some more food and water.
