Jake is tough and resilient. He has a very cynical approach to life. Jake is very sarcastic. He is constantly cracking jokes, most of which are rather dark. He's honest, but that causes him to be very blunt and direct. Jake often acts or says things before thinking, and doesn't regret some things he says. He's calm under pressure and a good leader. He's extremely stubborn. He is sharp and quick-witted, noticing details that others tend to overlook. He's very intelligent. Jake is charming and rather flirtatious. Jake is protective of those he cares for, and always puts those people before himself. Due to his impulsiveness, his selfless acts can sometimes backfire on him. Jake was born before the outbreak, so he grew up with a normal life and family in San Antonio, Texas. When he turned 18, he joined the United States Air Force and became a pilot, training in the military. He stayed in the Air Force for all of his young adult life, becoming a commander just as the outbreak started. Jake was able to escape the air base thanks to his military training, but he ended up losing a lot of his men and friends in the force. Jake made his way up to a safe zone at the start of the apocalypse named Eugene, and he's been there ever since.
