The original title for the first Pirates Of The Caribbean film was just "Pirates Of The Caribbean". But the title was later changed to Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl in case it did well at the box office to merit a sequel.

And it obviously did well and so did it's sequels because Pirates Of The Caribbean went on to be the 7th most succesful film franchise of all-time and they're still making movies!
