A/N- I am basing this off of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, but there won't be a sad ending. This one will be different, but I hope you all like it. The clip above is from the 2013 version of The Great Gatsby. Hope you guys enjoy it.

(Y/N P.O.V.)

It was the summer of 2012 when I met the man. People called him a whole lot of different things. Great, fantastic, awesome, whatever else they could think of that described him. No doubt, Harper was a fantastic man, but the city was absurdly quiet when that winter hit.

The first off day for the Nationals that summer took place on Monday, June 4th. I had just moved into my apartment in Washington, D.C., and I had the wonderful view of my neighbor's huge estate. I didn't know who lived there, but I asked some of my roommates about the owner of the big house.

"Who lives there?" I asked one day.

My neighbor, Joanna, replied, "Harper. That newbie the Nats called up."

"Hasn't he only been there for a few months?"

"Yes, but everyone here loves him."

Well, I thought that I would never meet The Great Bryce Harper, but one of his servants came over with an invite to the party that evening. Joanna mentioned that this kid likes to host these big parties and people from all over Maryland would come just to say that they were at one of Harper's parties.

The invitation stated that I should be there around eight, not a minute more or less. I quickly unpacked my wardrobe for the evening, and made sure that I would stand out in the crowd. As I readied myself, I saw the whole entourage of people helping with the set up of tonight's party.

There were so many platters of fruit, vegetables, meat, and at least fifty different types of drinks, both alcohol and non-alcohol alike. I didn't realize that my roommate wasn't kidding when she said that everyone who was anyone would come.

I started to think back to when I was a youth in the always growing city of Boulder City, and I remember hearing about a kid named Harper. They always said that their "Savior" would make a team really happy one day. I think that I even remember dating a kid named Harper from Las Vegas. But, The Great Bryce Harper could not be the Harper kid I remember from my youth.

I walked into the party, and I saw all of these different people. People who were made of money and wore a different gown each time. There were people who continuously wore the same thing because that's all they had. People were sometimes here just to be the annoying drunkard from Zanarkand.

No doubt, the people that came to Harper's were from all over the map. I ran into my friend, Joanna, and she was elated to see me.

"What are you doing here, (Y/N)?"

"I was invited here by Mr. Harper himself. Were any of these people here invited?"

She looked at me and started to laugh, "No one is invited."

I was shocked to learn this, but I decided to start looking around for Mr. Harper. I wanted to know for myself if he was the man from my childhood. And I also wanted to thank him for the invite to the carnival like party at his house.

I looked all around for him, and yet I couldn't find him. Somebody handed me a drink, and it was filled with a mysterious concoction that was just waiting to be tested on somebody. I asked if it contained alcohol or not, because I wanted to stay true to my mission to find The Great Bryce Harper.

For the whole twenty years of my existence, I have never tasted such a horrid drink in my life. Even though it didn't have alcohol in it, I hated it more because of this. After getting a new drink that was the normal for me, I decided to take in the party and try to look for the host one last time before I called it a night.

I accidentally ran into a man that was well dressed. He was better dressed than most of the "guests" here.

"I'm so sorry I ran into you! Are you okay?"

"No, no, you're fine, my good friend. What's your name? You look awfully familiar, good friend."

"(Y/N). Wow, this party is getting crazy. I wonder where the host is at?"

"I'm terribly sorry, but I am the host. I'm the one they call Harper."

I stood there in shock, because a small smile lurked across his face, and then he knew me from somewhere. Could it be that he was the one from my childhood in Boulder City?

Harper said to me, "(Y/N), you have changed so much, and I hope I didn't change too much for your liking."

I smiled and said, "Nope. You're still the Bryce Harper that I dated until the draft and who is always watching out for me."

The Great Bryce Harper said to me, "Of course, good friend."
