Top 10 Non-Disney Villain Songs

Everybody knows those famous Disney songs, specifically those sung by the villains. From Hellfire, to Poor Unfortunate Souls, to Savages, to Be Prepared, we all know them, and we all love them. They're pretty great most of the time, and even if they aren't, they're usually at least a little catchy. But not a lot of people pay much attention to the villain songs from Non-Disney sources. Granted, they usually aren't that good, but some of them are alright. And here are some of my favourites.

10: Horsell Common and the Heat Ray, Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds

https://youtu.be/7tH9Fbz1q1Q

This is not from a film, TV show, or even a stage musical. Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds is one part prog-rock album, one part audiobook, and one part musical soundtrack. And this is one of the better songs from the album. While not technically a villain song, this song introduces the evil martians into possibly the best adaptation of the classic War of the Worlds story. The guitar and synth noises really add to the feeling of something otherworldly, and it's made even better with spoken narration from Richard Burton (or Liam Neeson if you're listening to the remake version). By far the best part is a heavy guitar riff meant to represent the heat ray being fired. A great song from a great, but underrated album. If you can find it on YouTube, I suggest listening to the whole thing, or buy it on iTunes.

9: Ruber, Quest for Camelot

https://youtu.be/MD4z8k2B3ys

Named after the villain of the film, this song features Ruber describing exactly how he's going to take over Camelot. His plan involves fusing steel weaponry to human flesh... that's actually pretty metal... no pun intended. Ruber's a pretty cool villain, but unfortunately not very well known, and not really from the best movie either. But while the movie might not be the best, the songs definitely make up for its mediocrity... sort of. And this song is no exception.

8. Master of the Seas, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift

https://youtu.be/LHwg9J5mTcU

Okay, this movie wasn't very good. But wow was this song enjoyable. Peter Dinklege plays Captain Gutt, an ape pirate captain with a ragtag crew of other animals, and he and his crew sing this little shanty after kidnapping Manny, Sid, and Diego. It shows Gutt's intimidating but laid-back personality, and I love his dry delivery during some of the lyrics. The other crew members are pretty good too.

7. No More Mr. Nice Guy, Swan Princess

https://youtu.be/AyfJr7dS7xs

If you heard this song by itself, you might not know it was a villain song, if not from a movie at all. Other villain songs are big, orchestral, and maybe even a little metal. This one is... jazzin'. As with other villain songs, Rothbart, the movie's villain, basically describes his evil plot through music. You wouldn't really expect a dude who looks like Rothbart to sing such a laid-back jazz tune. This is more like a song you'd expect someone like the Green Goblin to sing. And in fact...

6. Freak Like Me Needs Company, Spider Man Turn Off the Dark

https://youtu.be/5RgR0-EWuNY

This song is sung in the Spider Man Broadway musical (yeah, bet you forgot that train wreck existed) by the Green Goblin himself, along with his team of minions and the Sinister Six. This song is one of the better songs from the musical, as it combines the music style your'e used to seeing on Broadway with a little rock and techno flair from Bonno and the Edge of U2, who wrote all the songs. Wait... if Spider Man is a Marvel property, and Marvel is owned by Disney, does that mean this is technically a Disney Song? Either way, I'd be really happy if this song becomes more well known. Maybe they could even put it in a movie, now that Spidey's going to be in the next Captain America. I'm getting off topic again, let's move on.

5. Playing with the Big Boys, Prince of Egypt

https://youtu.be/hH5y71hOvk0

While some would argue that the Plagues is a better song, I don't consider it a villain song. The main villain of the movie does sing, but only at the end. Most of it is Moses. But this one is exclusively sung by villains, specifically Rameses' high priests, played by the hilarious Steve Martin and Martin Short. The song starts out pretty chill, and eventually ramps up with a choir chanting the names of Egyptian gods, and the music picking up tempo and volume. It's pretty surprising how two comedic actors can play two convincing villains. And this song will be stuck in my head for a long time to come.

4. Glass of Water, My Little Pony

https://youtu.be/mtsle9CeEQA

While this song took place in an episode after Discord's reformation, there's no doubt that his mischievous side is still showing. In the episode, Discord is faking being sick so Twilight and Cadence are forced to take care of him. When they ask if he needs anything, he sings this song. It's the first song Discord has ever sang, and is chock-full of references, ranging from Harry Potter to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Admittedly, John Delancie isn't the best singer, and he even admitted himself that his singing skills are not on par with the other actors on the show. Even still, this song is definitely the funnest song on the list... for now.

3. In the Dark of the Night, Anastasia

https://youtu.be/C_k6hAVmn8Q

I barely remember this movie, but I definitely remember this song. Rasputin, the villain of the film, sings about how he's going to kill princess Anastasia. He sings along with his albino bat sidekick and army of bugs from the underworld... wow this movie was weird. This is probably the only song on the list which is still on the same standards as most Disney films. This makes sense, as most of the team working on this movie were ex-Disney staff, including the legendary Don Bluth himself. Anyways, while Anastasia may not be very memorable, this song definitely holds a place in my nightmares.

2. Mean Green Mother from Outer Space, Little Shop of Horrors

https://youtu.be/VPs8SZZTg68

Now THIS is the funnest song on the list. This song was actually added for the movie adaption of Little Shop, and not included in the original Broadway musical. Despite that, it definitely fits. The song involves the killer plant Audrey 2 singing about how he... she... it doesn't need to depend on someone else to feed it anymore. The best part of the song is when it grabs Seymour's gun and starts shooting at him. You can tell that this plant is having fun while it's tormenting this guy. And that's why the song is so great, because it's both evil and fun. A great song from a great musical.

1. Under Our Spell, Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks

https://youtu.be/dUDOrUlZt-g

Aww yeah, now we're talking. For those who don't know/care, Equestria Girls is a My Little Pony spinoff series involving the main characters in an alternate universe where they become human... you can see where I get my story ideas. Anyway, the Dazzlings are the villains of the second Equestria Girls film, and boy are they awesome. They sing 3 songs throughout the film, and this is the second, and best. Admittedly, the Dazzlings are not the most engaging villains. Their motives aren't clear, and a little contradictory, really. Also, I often forget the purple ones name. But this song makes up for it. All 3 of their voices are both beautiful and creepy at the same time, leading to a kind of uncomfortable kind of sound. It gives me shivers every time. Seriously, even if you don't like MLP, I suggest you check this song out. It's great.

Edit: I just added videos for all of the songs, to make them easier to listen to.
