"What're you trying to do?! Kill them?!" Dipper exclaimed.

"I sent a message to the time council and they said that they would send some officers. There must've been some confusion- I didn't mean for them to attack!" Blendin replied anxiously. He paced back and forth in the room.

They were standing in a room filled with monitors that viewed the same clip of the pod shooting at Stan's car. Dipper's widened eyes remained glued to the screen in fear of what might become of his family.

"They could be anywhere now that they're off the grid," Dipper mumbled. "Do you think there's still a way for someone to track them down?"

"Of course," Blendin replied confidently. "They're the time police, they can do practically anything."

His watch beeped twice and a hologram of an officer appeared. Dipper finally abandoned the screens to turn and hear what the officer had to say.

"We're sending the patrol group in their direction. We were able to attach a tracking device to the vehicle before it was driven into the woods."

"Great!" Dipper exclaimed. "So where are they?"

. . .

"Welcome to Bay Lodge Motel," Stan announced wearily as the car rolled over the bumpy asphalt and into the deserted parking lot.

"Is this place even open?" Mabel asked. "Cause I haven't exactly had any good experiences with trespassing onto closed, possibly haunted property."

A neon sign was buzzing in the window of the entrance and both Stan and Mabel were suddenly able to tell that lights were on inside the building. Stan grabbed a wad of money (probably stolen) from the glovebox, shoved it in his pocket and stepped out of the car. Mabel reluctantly did the same as she followed him inside.

Stan walked up to the counter and slid a stack of dollar bills towards the lady sitting in an office chair.

"One room, one night."

The lady grabbed the money, then handed him a rusty key with the number 618 engraved on a tag.

Mabel followed Stan to the room. As soon as the door had been unlocked and pushed open, she ran inside and began jumping up and down on the bed. The rusty springs squeaked under her weight, making Stan cringe from the noise.

"Could you be any louder? These walls are paper-thin, ya'know," he said irritably. He grabbed a pillow and a spare blanket and sat down on the floor while Mabel quietly tucked herself into bed.

After rubbing his eyes, Stan turned to Mabel and sighed.

"I can't ignore this any longer. . . you're-" Stan had to force himself to continue, no matter how crazy this situation was "-you're really from the future?"

Mabel nodded. "Yup."

"Okay so this is really happening. . ." he mumbled, falling back onto the floor. He buried his face in his hands and took a moment to arrange his thoughts. He sat back up.
"So tell me about yourself. What's 2012 like?"

Mabel cocked her head and her eyes trailed up to the ceiling. "My name is Mabel Pines, my twin brother's name is Mason, but we call him Dipper, and the future isn't much different from this. I guess the advance in technology and clothing is the biggest difference. . .and. . . Uh, Hal? Are you okay?"

Stan was pressed up against the wall. Sweat headed his forehead and his face has turned pale. His eyes were widened as if he had just encountered a ghost.

"Pines?" he sputtered. "You're a Pines?"

Mabel's eyes knit together. "Yeah. . . what's wrong?"

"I guess. . . I guess it's time that I come clean," Stan said quietly. "After everything we've been through, you oughta know the truth." He closed his eyes and inhaled.

"My name isn't Hal. It's Stanley. Stanley Pines."

"No. Way," Mabel gasped. "I have a great uncle named Stan Pines!"

Stan's heart thudded faster. "Are you sure this isn't a coincidence?"

"How could it not be?" she replied.

"Are you related to Shermie?" Stanley asked, desperate for more information.

"Yeah. Shermie's my grandpa!" Mabel exclaimed. "So this is really happening? You're my Grunkle Stan?"

Stanley nodded. He couldn't help but smile. After everything that had happened in the past year, it was comforting to have the smallest piece of family by his side. Even if the circumstances were a bit strange.

"I have a niece," he said to himself. He laughed. "I have a niece and nephew! This is insane! And it's even crazier that you're a twin."

Mabel lifted a curious eyebrow. "How's that crazy?"

Stanley blinked. "I'm a twin too. . .Don't you know my brother? Stanford?"

"You have a brother?"
