they looked up at the dark sky
and they saw stars and moon
came upon the tree of life
and found it could be pruned.

they ate the fruit, the story tells
and climbed up many boughs
and saw the many blossoms there
and said "Let's not leave now."

so up they climbed the tree of life
but then the fruit grew sour
and ill they grew, and iller, then
iller by the hour.

but still they shouted, "On we go!"

but now their love was purposeless -
