Distance

You and I were close,

You were a pillar of support.

But when you got a chance, you chose.

To stay away from me, your decision strong as a fort.

I wait patiently,

For you are not someone I would give up on.

Yet you continue to work ceaselessly,

And I hold on to vain hope, maybe you'll return home after aeons?

Years have passed, and you don't disappear,

But your periodic visits still keeps you at a distance.

And now my eyes are dry, I don't have any left, those tears,

Maybe you were just a stranger after all, we don't need your remittance.

This is not the poem you deserve, but it's the one that came to me. I apologise for the fact that it doesn't feel that great when read in a flow...

Have you ever had a close relative that you felt became a stranger to you over time?
