The clock struck 2PM indicating the commencement of the match broadcasting...

The battle of the captains!

Not many knew about the significance of this day as much as Virat knew... A handful of people knew what exactly it meant to him...

14 years back a young teenage boy walked down the stands of this very stadium batting against this very team of knight riders...
That day his score was just a mere 1...

Today he stands here again at this same place as the captain of his team, as the run machine and with just 56 runs away from being the only RCB player to score 6000 runs...

He has come a long way... 

Just as all these memories were flashing by his mind he heard his phone ring indicating his most awaited call... 

"All the best Cheeku! " the soft voice came from the other side which made him smile like a 100 watt bulb
"Thank you so much Mahi bhai!!!" Virat squealed like a toddler
"Bhaiya stop flashing that colgate smile of yours now jab electricity cut jayegi then it'll be useful save it for some other time" Yuzi who was standing infront of him joked 
"Waise who's  on the other side" Yuzi yelled in Virat's ears

"God! Dev kiddo drag this monkey from here" Virat called out to his kiddo for help
"Dev main tera senior hu na!!' Yuzi spoke in a stern voice
"Hello I'm your senior here and Dev mera kiddo hai so he'll listen to me" Virat spoke possessively
"Mera dukh toh sirf Ro bhai hi samjh sakte abhi" Yuzi cried dramatically before vanishing from the dressing room

"Haha what commotion are you guys creating in the dressing room Cheeku" Mahi bhai laughed out
"Nothing much bhai Yuzi has been troubling me a lot!!!" Virat chuckled

"Mahi bhai you know on this day back..." Virat was speaking when Mahi bhai cut him off
"On this day 14yrs back you walked down the stands to bat in for RCB for the first time! I remember Cheeku! Back then too you were just as nervous as you right now..." Mahi bhai continued.

A minute of silence was formed when Virat started to drift back in the memory lane feeling a sense of déjà vu...
Mahi bhai on the other hand sensing what his not so little Cheeku is feeling tried to pacify him...

"Cheeku bacha you know 14yrs back I met this young boy of somewhat 18 years who was full of zeal and confidence... He endured such great pain and struggled so much to make his mark in the national team... The nation taunted his aggressiveness but that boy absorbed all of it and in return shoved them all with his scores... Today after 14 yrs am seeing the same boy as a matured captain... An ace skipper... The world's best batsmen... The Run Machine of India... The one and only Virat Kohli... You've had it all bacha and you deserve every bit of this glory! So all the very best Cheeku!! You can do it!!" Mahi bhai encouraged Virat with his pep talk...

"Thank you so much bhai! Thank you for moulding that 18 yr old boy into what he is today! Today your Cheeku won't let you down!" Virat spoke enthusiastically
"Okay I'll talk to you after the match now come on! Buck up!!" Mahi bhai hung up.

Just as Virat was about to freshen up his phone rang again... This time indicating a video call form his best friends!

"Dekh maine bola tha na yeh jobless insan apne phone pe hi rahega" Rohit spoke while Jinks laughed looking at Virat's expression
"Oh hello!! Jobless main nhi tu hai! Mera toh match hai aaj aur Jinksy ka bhi aaj match hai so you are the one who is jobless" Virat spoke laughing 
"Excuse me! I have a lot of work to do! I have to eat, I have to work out, I have to follow your match score this is one of the biggest works I have!! You understood I'm a very busy person" Rohit spoke proudly
"Haa you aren't gonna follow my match Ro?" Jinks asked mischievously
"Ofcourse Jinksy I'll follow your match too!" Rohit said in a go

"You'll watch me play?" Virat asked not believing what his bestie spoke
"Yess dumbhead afterall I need to observe that you, Nags and AB don't stick to each other like magnets" Rohit burst out laughing
"Yeah right and you better not stick to your Polly" Virat narrowed his eyes
"Main bach gya iss mamle main" Jinks laughed looking at their bickerings
"Who said so!! Smith and Stoinis remember!! " Rohit and Virat spoke together 
"Oh god such jealous bunch of kids you both are" Jinks laughed out

"Okay can I hang up now? I gotta go freshen up" Virat spoke
"Areyy wait!! Jis kaam ke liye call kiya wo toh karle" Rohit interrupted
"Haa yess" Jinks agreed

"What are you guys gonna do?" Virat asked puzzled by their actions
"Shut up let us complete" Rohit shoved him off
"Yess so our dearest Cheeku" Jinks began speaking and paused for a moment

Virat was confused with what his two idiotic friends were upto.

"All the very best bestie!!!" Jinks and Rohit yelled on the phone
Virat was waiting for them to complete and stood there without uttering another word.
"What happened say something" Jinks spoke

"Itna hi kehna tha kya?" Virat asked
"Haa aur kya pura lecture de?" Rohit asked between his laughs

"Pagal build up toh aise de rha tha jaise koi speech dene jaa rha hai" Virat spoke with a poker face
"Rohit ka idea tha" Jinks spoke

"Oyy it's a joint work!!" Rohit spoke

Virat laughed at this and remembered how they all grew from being just mere moody teenagers to best of friends through thick and thin...

"Okay iss baar finally All the best Virat!! Lets go for a hat trick!!!" Jinks and Rohit wished, Virat mouthed a thankyou and hung up...

Walking down the memory lane he realised how he had these strong pillars of support even during his rock bottom... When they said they'd always be there for him what he didn't was the depth of their words... Today standing here he turned back to see a path full of  ups and downs but one thing that was constant was his fam's love for him...
