Star was on an emotional rollercoaster.

As soon as she felt filled with joy at the dark magic finally leaving Marco's body entirely, it was dashed immediately when Marco started screaming again.

First, his dark skin lightened to it's original colour. It looked stretched taught over his cheeks. Then his hair turned thick and curly, black shot through with gold. His teeth lengthened and turned pointy. His bones cracked and stretched. A pair of leathery, bat-like wings burst from between his shoulder blades and two small horns pushed their way through his hair near his temples.

Finally, Marco stopped screaming and fell back onto the bed heavily.

All three of them ran over to him, too shocked to speak.

Star knelt down next to the bed and reached out to Marco's unconscious form.

"Marco... oh Marco..." she whispered, gently placing a hand on his cheek. His front teeth were so elongated that they stuck out over his bottom lip, and they were scarily sharp. His eyes were closed and his hair was thick and curly.

"What's happened to him?" Tina whispered fearfully.

"He's turned into a demon..." Tom replied, awestruck.

Star suddenly remembered something and her stomach plummeted.

"Tina," she said urgently, looking up at her with wide, fearful eyes. "Toffee said that as soon as all the dark magic was out of Marco, he would have all his human injuries back! What should we do? He's been stabbed, starved and has broken bones!"

Right on cue, Marco's breathing grew faster, frantic, even, and suddenly his eyes flew open.

His irises were a beautiful deep maroon, shot with flecks of gold.

"Wow..." Tom breathed. Shivers ran down Star's spine.

Marco took a huge gasping breath and sat up. Before he could speak a single word, he gave a spluttering cough and what looked like molten gold spattered his lips.

"Demon blood," Tom whispered.
