ohh boy you guys I need to rant

So today, I saw a touring production of Dirty Dancing the Musical. The show wasn't the best I've seen, but it was good and the actors were all amazing

but guys

THE AUDIENCE WAS AWFUL

for a good minute after the lights went down at the beginning of act one and two, they continued talking even as the actors were coming onstage and began the show

and I get that Dirty Dancing has a huge fan following and everyone loves it, but this is still a musical, it is not a rock concert

this means that if a male actor has his shirt off, it is disrespectful to whistle and holler

this means that if a male actor starts dancing, it is disrespectful to whistle and holler

this means that, when a character insults another character by saying "you're going to end up as a gigolo", YOU SHOULD NOT CHEER AND CLAP BECAUSE ANYONE BEING FORCED TO BECOME A GIGOLO IS NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD WANT

it also means that, during a tense, serious scene in which the main character takes a big step which leads to quite a bit of character development, you shouldn't laugh at it

wow I'm sorry, my fellow audience members just drove me a little crazy tonight
