HELLO it's your favorite neighborhood crazy girl here trying to force underrated musicals on you all because I want to fangirl about them with someone!

today's edition: Bright Star, the musical that was nominated for Best Musical in 2016 but didn't win and proceeded to fade into obscurity because of Hamilton

Bright Star is a bluegrass-ish musical (if there are any Ramin Karimloo fans here it's kinda like broadgrass) and the score is absolutely gorgeous and I love the story with all my heart

the plot is kind of complicated but basically the timeline jumps back and forth between the 40s and the 20s and there are two love stories and it really shows off how severe some things were back then (such as, this girl is pregnant and unmarried, gotta hide her in a cabin in the woods for nine months)

unfortunately there are no major Newsies cast members in it that I can use to persuade you, unless you count the fact that Liana Hunt starred in the touring production (and she was fabulous in it let me just say) but when I saw I cried so much and it's just a beautiful amazing show, there is a bootleg on YouTube and on stagedork.com and please go watch it please thank you
