so I'm doing more historical research for my story (it's getting excessive at this point) and I found a list of reasons  that people were admitted into mental hospitals in the late 1800s and it's... something

the list included, but was not limited to:

1. Egotism

2. Laziness

3. Novel Reading (in that case we'd all be in the insane asylum)

4. Asthma

5. Shooting of daughter (what?)

6. Imaginary female trouble (um... okay)

7. Parents were cousins

8. Politics (that's all it says. just politics)

so... it's a good thing mental hospitals aren't as drastic now
