ALRIGHT so I'm currently listening to Bandstand while cleaning for Thanksgiving, and I noticed a line in Just Like It Was Before for the first time and feel the need to address this
"and any bad news you can just ignore"
and that just hurts me because people ACTUALLY thought that
sure, millions of our own soldiers were killed, and the majority of the ones who survived are injured physically and/or mentally, but hey, the war's over, no one's getting hurt anymore so everything's fine!
most people knew about what a difficult time the returning soldiers were having, but they simply chose to ignore it because they didn't want to have to deal with it
men were killing themselves after they returned home, because they didn't know what was happening to them, and everyone else just pretending like it wasn't happening to them, so they decided that facing death was preferable to facing whatever was going on with them
and guess what
we only just recently started finding out about these suicides, because there was such a stigma around it, that nobody recorded them
men were taking their own lives, and nobody talked about it, so as to save to rest of the public from having to accept the fact that life wasn't perfect
okay, I have no idea what the purpose of that rant was, but there ya have it
