TOPIC 4: BANKING ON THE POOR

Poor people can not borrow money from most banks. They have no money collateral and seem to be no way for them to break the cycle of poverty. But, nowadays, poor people can borrow money from Good Faith. This organization lends money to poor people in borrowing groups. Each person must do two things to borrow money: take classes in business and join a borrowing group (own and run their small business. Everyone in the group must approve the loan of every other group member (character, small village, no collateral). At first, both men and women are borrowing. But, men spent the money on themselves. So then, Good Faith just lends money for women. This amount of money, they do business and almost all of them succeed. And they receive more respect than before from every people, especially the male. The Global Fund is another organization that lends money for the poor people to start their small business. The direct focus of their organization is help to find the solution to social ills (violence and lack of education. Good Faith starts to teach women to read. There is hope that poor people can break the cycle of poverty for themselves and prove their family and society.
