TFP Ratchet x Reader

---

You were beginning to notice a change in Ratchet's behavior. While the others continuously fought Decepticons and gathered energon for everyone, the medic just hung around his computer console with a lonesome look on his face. He had mentioned before that he felt utterly useless to the team besides his medical expertise, but he caught himself before he spilled everything. Still, that was enough to make you feel absolutely terrible.

Telling him that 'he wasn't useless' wasn't going to work due to his personality. He would instinctively know that you were just trying to make him believe that. Bumblebee had tried that same tactic before and it failed miserably. So, you decided to try something else instead.

"Hey Ratchet, you... uh.. wanna take a break and come sit on the roof with me? I heard there would be a pretty sunset tonight!" You spoke up as you approached the medic, a cheerful smile on your face.

Ratchet finished what he was typing and turned his head to look at you, a tired gleam in his optics. "I'm almost done with this, though."

You huffed playfully and rolled your optics. "Well, you can finish it later! C'mon!" You exclaimed, grabbing his arm and tugging him towards the lift. He didn't try to pull back, which was good since you had expected him to resist.

"Y/N!" Ratchet huffed and pulled his arm out of your grip, crossing them across his chassis as the door to the lift closed. "I've seen hundreds of sunsets on this planet, how could this one be any different?"

"Because you won't be alone. Besides, your optics need a rest from staring at that dang screen all day!" You giggled and stepped out of the lift when it reached the roof, glancing at Ratchet before heading over to the edge and taking a seat. You dangled your legs over the edge and sighed, looking up at the sky as the sun began to sink below the horizon.

Ratchet silently came over and sat down next to you, folding his hands in his lap and letting out a heavy sigh. He eventually looked up at the setting sun, watching as the sky turned from a fiery orange color to a reddish-purple color. The stars were beginning to appear in the darkening sky.

Once the sun set and the sky grew darker, you decided to break the silence by playing a song from your radio that you had heard while listening to music with Rafael. You were beginning to like human music.

"Look at the stars..."

"Look how they shine for you..."

"And everything you do..."

"And they were all yellow..."

Ratchet was somewhat startled by the sudden sound, but soon relaxed when it was just music. He turned and gave you a perplexed look, but you just kept playing the song.

"I came along..."

"I wrote a song for you..."

"And all the things you do..."

"And it was called 'Yellow'"

By now, Ratchet was just confused. Though, he didn't interfere as you continued playing the song until the end. He was silent the entire time.

When it finally ended, you shut off your radio and sat back a bit. You looked at Ratchet with a soft gaze and smiled brightly. "Did you like it?" You asked.

Ratchet stared at you for a moment more before looking up at the stars. "I... don't have words to explain what I'm feeling right now...." He murmured softly.

The smile didn't leave your face as you moved closer to him and wrapped an arm around his shoulders, pulling him closer. You sighed and rested your cheek on his shoulder, looking up at the stars as well. "When I heard the first few lyrics, I immediately thought of you... I know you've been feeling like you're useless lately, but you aren't. In my opinion, you are the most useful bot on our team. You patch us up when we get hurt, you fix the groundbridge so that we can travel, you risk your life so that Megatron can't take away our hope! You are so much more than you think you are," You paused, gently putting your hand on his cheek to turn his head so he was looking at you. "don't ever think that you are useless. You are far from useless."

Ratchet stared at you, completely speechless and taken aback by what you just told him. He didn't know what to do, so he did the first thing that came to mind. He pulled you into a gentle hug and actually started crying a bit.

"T-Thank you, Y/N.... I..... I really.. needed that...."
