Two years later.

Hyeji's POV

I woke up to the sound of something sizzling away in the kitchen. Looking to my side I notice Yuta had vacated the bed in favour of whipping up something on the stove.

I yawned loud enough that he probably heard me, stretching my arms above my head before getting out of bed.

Slipping my feet into some slippers, I reach for his discarded shirt on the floor. I put it on and ensure it is long enough to cover my rear before heading out to see him.

Yuta smiled immediately upon noticing my arrival as he stirred what seemed to be scrambled eggs.

"Good morning, princess," he leaves the eggs alone for long enough to give me a morning hug and kiss. "Big day ahead of us so I am making a big breakfast."

"A big breakfast of just eggs?" I query, noticing there is no bread in the toaster or any other item of food being prepared.

"There's also toast—that I didn't put on," Yuta sighs, frustrated with his efforts.

I laugh to myself as I go grab some slices of bread to put into the toaster.

"What are the plans for this big day?"

Last I knew, today was to be spent in the apartment watching shitty romcoms whilst simply refusing to get dressed all day.

"I figured we could go to the beach and even have dinner at one of those fancy water front places," Yuta recites the agenda like he has the script written in his brain.

"I see," folding my arms across my chest, I lean against the countertop as I just watch the love of my life focus on his eggs.

He mixes them a few more times before turning off the heat, bringing the pan over to his pre-prepared plate on the bench. Pouring the yellow mixture onto its surface, he chucks the pan back on the stove before heading to the fridge for the butter.

The toaster dings as the toast is released. I grab the slices and assist the chef in his endeavour to complete breakfast.

After a short few minutes we are both seated on the bench stools, indulging in Yuta's special breakfast.

"Do I need to dress fancy?" I ask him.

"What do you mean?" he responds with another question.

"Well is this a bikini beach date or a will-you-marry-me beach date?" I ask the latter half in a very quick breath, almost hoping he won't hear it.

"Why would I tell you if I'm proposing? I'm not doing that until you're thirty at least," Yuta grimaces at me as though I were the ugliest thing he had ever seen.

I mock offence to his expression as I continue to shovel eggs into my mouth.

"Maybe I'll wear a nice dress with a bikini underneath it so I'm prepared for either option," I settle on my clothing decision out loud.

"Maybe that's a good idea," Yuta agrees, giving his nod of approval.

I smile to myself, finishing my plate before heading to the bedroom to get dressed.

It would make sense for him to propose. We are reaching our technical 3 year anniversary — if you exclude the break we had when he was with Seulgi.

We live together and I think it's pretty obvious that we are pretty in love with each other.

We have been having more discussions about our further recently too. Regarding the idea of kids and getting a proper house and what not.

Still, I didn't want to jinx the whole thing.

I've seen enough videos of expecting fiancées being let down when they discover it's just a fun date and not a proposal.

I keep this in mind as I choose my simple yet pretty outfit. My hair isn't that much of a concern. I just tuck it away in a messy bun with my hair clip.

Yuta chucks on a nice pair of shorts and one of the nicer shirts in his wardrobe.

Before long we are on our way to the beach that we have been too many times together. It seems like any other beach trip until we reach one of the docks.

"Can I trust you to wait here a sec? I just wanna check something out," he interrupts our conversation about owning yachts and all the fancy things.

"Sure," I nod, halting where I am as he rushes off to somewhere I can't see.

"Hyeji!" I hear a familiar voice calling my name.

Turning, I see Seulgi rushing towards me. She gives me a quick hug before pulling back.

"You look gorgeous," she compliments.

"Thanks? You too I guess," I'm now getting very suspicious.

She's also wearing a beach dress, having braided her hair into pig tails on either side of her head. She takes my hand in hers and just gives me a massive smile before pulling me towards the dock.

I'm about to ask her to just tell me what's going on when I figure it out for myself.

The path leading to the very end of the wooden dock is scattered with rose petals of all colours. I feel my heart skipping almost every beat as I start noticing the details.

Hanging off each bollard all the way down is a different image of Yuta and I. It's an array of our life together so far.

My eyes are already watering by the time we reach the third photo. I look between Seulgi and this display that's been formed, doing my best to not lose my mind just yet.

"I think I'll let you take yourself the rest of the way," my best friend gives me a final hug before starting to head back onto the beach.

I turn towards the end of the dock again to see the silhouette of the love of my life waiting at the end.

Quickening my pace, I bring my hands to cover my mouth as the ugliest sobs start to come out.

Yuta has tears in his own eyes as I approach him. He wastes no time as he pulls me into his loving embrace for a few moments.

Once he pulls away, I do my best to slow my tears, at least enough so I can hear him speak.

"Kim Hyeji," he begins, his voice already affected by his emotions.

"I knew from the moment I saw you, that you would have a massive impact on my life. You were so beautiful and you continue to be the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my life. You have taught me so many life lessons, the hardest ones happening when we had that time apart. The whole world was against us and yet we proved them wrong. We are still here, together against all the odds."

I struggle to keep my sobs in my throat as I watch Yuta bend the knee. Out of his shorts pocket he pulls out a small ring with the most stunning diamond that I've ever seen.

"Kim Hyeji, will you marry me?"

I don't hesitate before I begin nodding frantically.

"Yes, a million times yes."

He has barely put the ring on my finger and stood up before I jump into his arms. I can feel the vibrations of his chest as he cries with me out of pure joy.

This moment was more perfect then any proposal I could've imagined. Yuta put his heart and soul into this.

"I have one more surprise," Yuta states, pulling away from me to wipe the tears from my eyes with his thumbs.

I don't get the chance to ask as someone calls my name from behind me.

My heart drops. I haven't seen him in two years. Other then the occasional text to tell me he's still alive, I haven't seen him.

My eyes can barely believe it themselves as I take in Lee Taeyong.

He smiles softly, only moving towards me once I break into a small run to get to him. I wrap my arms around him in one of the tightest hugs I've ever given.

"When did you get here?" I ask him.

"About three hours ago," he chuckles, "I guess a congratulations is in order?"

He sniffles quietly, just loud enough that I hear it.

"Thank you, I missed you so much," I exclaim over his shoulder.

"Okay enough of that, let's get some shots of the happy couple!" Seulgi cheers as she comes back into my view.

I pull away from Taeyong, taking another moment to look at him, making sure he's real, before I head over to my fiancé.

As Seulgi approaches I notice Jungwoo coming with her, he smiles encouragingly as he gives me a thumbs up.

Yuta is almost as beside himself as I am. He positions his arms around me in order to drop me over in the infamous dance position.

With my leg raised and both arms wrapped around his neck, I happily accept his lips and he kisses me. We both grin into the kiss as Seulgi takes multiple photos.

Just as Yuta said, against all the odds we have made it.

Just him and I.

Sometimes it's definitely worth being able to try again.
