The town of Ocean Point is the best place to be. It's very scenic, even though it's a suburb of a very large and populous city. There are many little neighborhoods, and everyone seems to know each other. Whenever I'm riding my bike through town, I hear shouts of, "Hey Mattie!" And, "Mattie! How's it going?"

The best part of living in Ocean Point is in the name- the ocean! The azure blue waves are always sparking along the white sandy beaches, and it seems so inviting, as if it's saying, "Mattie! Come play with me!" With each ebb and flow of the waters.

I rode my bike past the ocean on my way home from the last day of school that summer. I looked out across the water at the many islands off shore, and listened to the gulls flying above chatter and call to each other, while feeling the salty breeze play with my honey-blond hair. Ocean Point is indeed the best place.

I rode home and pulled my bike into the garage. My family's house is two floors high, and it's painted a light sandy color, like the beaches in Ocean Point. Better yet, the front door is deep blue. Marine blue was the name of the color I remember reading on the paint sample. Marine like the ocean!

On the inside, we have a living room, a kitchen, a TV room, and dining room all on he first floor. Bedrooms are on the second floor, and I'm happy our house is big enough that I don't have to share a room with my little sister.

As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted by a hyper and happy black dog and the grinning face of my nine year old sister, Lila. I gave her a suspicious look, set my backpack on the floor, and walked into the kitchen. Lila followed me there.

"Mom, I'm home!" I called out.

"I'm upstairs!" My mother called from the second floor of our cozy house.

I ran upstairs. My mother was in her bedroom, folding laundry with the TV on.

"Hey sweetie! How was the last day of school?" She said brightly to me.

"Not bad. The crowds leaving were pretty tough to navigate though." I responded, taking a seat on my mother's bed.

"I'm pretty sure the best skipper in all of Ocean Point was able to sail through that rough water!" My mother said in her best pirate voice. I smiled.

We sat watching the TV and folding laundry in silence for a few seconds. Then my mother turned back to me.

"Oh, Mattie! I almost forgot to tell you!"

"What?" I asked.

"Margaret wanted to meet you at the harbor for some tennis. If you plan on going, you'd better get your whites on and pedal your bike as fast as you can!" She winked at me.

"Yes!" I exclaimed and almost crashed down the stairs into my bedroom. This is how I knew summer had officially begun.
