If mainstream music makes you feel better, that doesn't mean it isn't shallow and lacking artistic merit. Your argument is basically that the music makes you feel good and that's all it takes.
I listen to music that provides depth of emotion and character, music that actually has a story to tell.
Just because it makes you feel better doesn't mean it is better than music with higher quality production, and better songwriting.
