A Story | Two Opposites

|V^V^V^V^V^V^V^V^V^V^|

Rapid knocks come from Rinea's (Reen-ya) door in the depths of the AutumnsWall View.

Rinea rubs her eyes from the ashes and gets up, annoyed of the morning knocking. She hurriedly walks to the door, hoping her guardian does not wake up.

She opens the coal-concrete black door with her heated hand. She's truly shocked by the view in front of her.

A human with darkened and scraped skin due to the blazing and dry air. A human with weak, dark green eyes and black-charcoal hair. "Dustin?"

At the sound of Rinea's voice, he begins to tear up relief and joy. A tear rolls down his cheek but soon dissipates and leaves a scrape across is cheek.

Dustin steps towards her giving Rinea a warning to reduce the heat she radiates. Dustin wraps his arms around her waist and puts his head into her hair, smelling her familiar scent. "I missed you..." he whispers.

"Dustin, come in first."

Dustin unwraps himself from her and steps onto the cold stone floor inside her house. Rinea closes the door behind him and offers him to sit on a stool. He agrees and sits then looks back up to her as she stands in front of him.

Rinea stands between Dustin's two legs and puts her hands on his shoulders. "Dustin, what are you doing here? You know it's dangerous. Look at you, you have so many scratches."

He leans his head on her chest, "I just missed you, okay? I needed to see you despite where you live. You know, I still can't get over how you left me to live here."

"You know why."

"I know." A long pause. "How are you?" he looks up from her chest and smiles, tired and dehydrated."

"I'm fine Dustin. But look at you, you're completely worn out and thirsty for water. We don't have water. Why did you come here if it meant risking your being?"

"It doesn't matter. As long as I'm with you, I'm okay."

"Dustin... can't you just understand? Sure, you're with me and you're fine but when you get hurt? I'm not fine. Don't you see, if you get hurt it pains me. I love it that you're here but I don't when you're all hurt like this."

"Exactly! You make sacrifices to be with someone you love! You don't make any sacrifices at all! Isn't what's important is that we're together...?" Sadness fills his eyes.

"There's no point of the sacrifices if one person ends up getting hurt and... dying!" Rinea's voice cracks. "I don't want to take risks of you being gone. Knowing you're still alive and doing well without me instead of you coming to me and getting hurt is better! If you really die... it's going to be all my fault!" she begins to sob with no tears really coming out, "All my fault because you're hurt..."

Dustin takes her face in his hands and looks deeply into her eyes. "Never say it's your fault if I die Rinea. Never."

"Then Dustin... please. Let go of me. You'll only end up getting hurt physically..."

"What about getting hurt emotionally? Doesn't that matter too?"

"Don't you think it would hurt me as well?! I'm doing it for your sake!"

"Wouldn't you want us happy then to die old and not happy? Wouldn't you want us together and die happy together?"

"I want that too... What are we going to do Dustin? Why does it have to be like this? I never asked for me to be born like this..."

"If that's what you really want."

"What?" she whispers.

"If you really want me to let you go... I will."

"I don't want you to get hurt-"

"What do you want Rinea?!"

She contemplates with herself. "I don't want... you to let me go."

-Two years later-

And he never did. Dustin held onto her until the rightful day came when Rinea could finally escape AutumnsWall View.

Rinea took a medicine that she would take every two months that would help her with her heat.

Dustin built a fire resistant home for the two and lived together. They adopted twins and named them Daniel and Danielle.

Sadly, on Christmas day, sixteen years later, the two ended up too sick and was sent to the hospital due too old of age.

Daniel and Danielle were with their parents, sitting next to them on their hospital beds.

"I love you guys." Rinea and Dustin both promised. "Make sure you guys become famous and mention us, alright?"

The kids laughed and played with their joke. "Sure, anything for you guys."

"I'm so proud of you guys. Don't forget us okay?" Rinea said."

"Stop it mom, you're saying this as if you're dying." Danielle spoke.

She caressed her cheek, "Sad to say, I am sweetheart. It's better to except things sooner that except it later."

"I'll hold onto that mom."

"I'll be honest with you guys now, dad is my favourite between you two."

Rinea gasps. "Well my favourite is mom!"

"You're both of our favourites."
