Trigger Warning ⚠️ : Opinions

______________________________________

The title gives half the description for this chapter; different platforms : different standards.

There are certain stages of fanfictions we read as we progress as an army. Also, some if not many of us, like to ignore the cringe/disrespectful ones too.

First, we see fanfictions on YouTube; to be specific, the ones in shorts aka the BTS imagines. Sometimes, they'd be funny, sometimes cringe and sometimes kill call.

Then we see those oneshots on YouTube, then the series that have seasons and everything.

After YouTube, one comes to Wattpad. And oh! is it a big change? You see oneshots, extremely cringey stories, gorgeous masterpieces, just everything and you love this platform.

Then you see those websites like Quotev, AO3 etc. and it's commonly known that these platforms have masterpieces and writers only those who have the skill.

Now let's come to the common notions for fanfictions on each platform.

1) YouTube
On YouTube, it's believed that fanfictions for newbies or kids are written. It's also a notion that YouTube writers don't have skill.

Oh boy, are these wrong.

YouTube writers write the stories and then edit a video on them which is twice the work, twice the dedication and twice the annoyance.

Though I agree that most YouTube oneshots are cringey/disrespectful, there are gems out there too. Some writers are awesome and according to me, the best fanfiction of our fandom is on YouTube.
I'd say Gangster × Secret Agent by Dysna Fictions is the best one we have with brilliant editing and 3 seasons.

Two sides of a coin are always there, there's those cringey 'daddy-oppa' octopus tentacles on YouTube as well, mostly in shorts and oneshots. But again, I read two extremely beautiful stories on shorts so I don't think it's right to generalise every writer on any platform. Because skill is based on the person not the platform.

2) Quotev / AO3

I don't have these websites and I've never read a fanfiction from these websites so the ones I present aren't my opinions but heavy generalization from what I've heard.

It's commonly said that AO3 has the best writers in any fandom, about Quotev, it's said that a mixture of writers go there to write but a lot of masterpieces can be found easily inplace of cringe.

AO3 is known to have masterpieces over masterpieces and there's a lot of YouTube channels who make trailers for their favourite AO3 fanfictions (I remember Sapphimaur). Those trailers are ballistically cool and I can only wonder how good the stories would be. But I don't really plan on getting another reading platform.

3) Wattpad
This is our dear app that pulls us through a series of What the Bells!

On Wattpad, there's a vast variety of BTS fanfictions, from my experience I'm gonna broadly categorise them.

1.) No Plot, just smut
These are the stories that are growing grass in the sky. The stories which make zero sense and yet get reads because of smut. And I have some controversial opinions about smut which I'll discuss in a later chapter.

2.) Talk in millions
The stories that have plot, a good writing style and reach millions of reads deservingly. I have nothing against them, they are actually good.

3.) Plot but no execution
It kinda saddens me when I see such stories. The writer struggles to write them, maybe due to language barrier or lack of experience but the plot is insanely cool. I just hope for the writer to improve and edit it for justice to the plot.

4.) Hardwork with no witness
Stories that are exceptionally good but don't get reads because of reasons like not containing smut or having lesser romance. It's extremely upsetting how good writers are ignored because the mainstream audience doesn't want good stories, instead, they are happy with plotless smut.

5.) Rare Gems
The stories that are so good that they'd be bestsellers as original novels, it's kind of awe awakening how people can write so well as a hobby.

6.) Mind Blasting
The stories with a plot that revolves 24/7 in your head and you just can't get it out of your mind.

7.) Cliché on top
So much cliché that 300 k-dramas could be made out of it. Enough said.
