Chapter 25

Silver handcuffs. Adam hated the fact that this simple object was able to very much drain away most of his power that he was weakened to the point where he couldn’t even lift a finger. He could barely even open his eyes, but he could very well hear what was happening all around him.

Why was it that he let himself get captured? He had enough power to fight back. The only problem was that they were very much too many to take on and they weren’t just any human so he stood no chance against this number.

Even though North Carolina was a place where most werewolves live, they wouldn’t dare show that fact. Hunters are notorious for the fact that once they have set their eyes on a prey, they won’t stop until they successfully hunted it down. It’s on their primal instinct and Adam never wanted to get others dragged into this. But knowing that an Alpha was captured, no less an Alpha King, there was bound to be a war.

“Set him down.” He heard Akira’s father say.

He was thrown on the cold, hard ground without any car and his back hit the wall. The sound of heavy chains clinking against the ground caused him to pull his lips back in a growl. If there was one thing werewolves hate, it was being deprived of their right to be free and this alpha knew that they were going to do just that.

With shackles clasped around his ankles and wrists, the cuffs were removed and he felt a bit of his energy flowing through his arms. The chains weren’t pure silver so it became a bit convenient, however, he wasn’t as strong as he was before. It wouldn’t be safe to say that his power was cut in half.

“You have guts trying to take my daughter for yourself.” Michael Martins snarled.

Adam looked up at him with his silver eyes and smirked. “She was given to me—by the moon goddess herself.”

He was suddenly kicked on the stomach and a punch landed square on his face. “Try saying that again and I’ll see to it that I cut your tongue.”

“Then do it.” He taunted. “I know you grabbed me for information. If you were ever to cut my tongue, how would I tell you?”

The man frowned with both anger and annoyance. “I don’t need you to tell me anything. I know someone who’s very much happy to tell me otherwise.”

The smirk fell from Adam’s lips and he glared at the man before him. The word rolled out of his tongue before he could even will it. “Who?”

“I think there’s no need to hide anymore, is there?  Alpha Sander.”

When the name echoed in his ears, Adam couldn’t help but snarl. “Sander?”

A shadow emerged from the darkness and the form of the other Alpha came to Adam’s sight. He glared at him fiercely and hissed. “Sander Cain. It was you all along?”

The blonde shrugged. “Seeing you act like you’re king all the time makes me sick. I thought this might be good for a change.”

“I am a king, you bastard. Just admit that you’re jealous!” He spat. “And with the current treachery you just showed, consider the alliance between Snow and Bourne all over!”

“Do you think I give a damn about the alliance?” He asked. “I only put up with it because my father wanted to. But now that I’m the Alpha, I can do as I please.”

“You damn greedy bastard. You’re betraying your own kind for your petty desires!”

“Can you blame me?” He asked. “At everything you do, you’re always better than me! You always look down on me like I’m a piece of trash!”

“With the current you, do you think you aren’t?”

      “Why you!”

“Stop it.” Michael said. “With Adam out of the picture, you’re free to take the position of Alpha King.”

”Sander, you big idiot! Do you think this man would let you do as you please? You’re playing on the palm of his hand. As soon as it’s over he’ll make no hesitance to kill you!”

“Do you think I give a damn about that? I’ll make a deal with the devil if it meant killing you.”

      “That’s enough.” Akira’s father said.

Sander angrily walked out of the dark-looking room, looking extremely pissed. Adam couldn’t help but feel hate welling up in his heart. To have a werewolf turn his back on his own kind was just repulsing—and he did it for his own, selfish reasons.

“Now, what do we do with you?” He asked.

      “Sir!” A voice exclaimed.

      “What happened?”

“Miss Akira’s been yelling nonstop in her room. She keeps on threatening us that she’ll kill herself if we don’t let her out and keeps on hitting the door so hard that we already noticed a few cracks on it.”

      “What?!”

      Adam chuckled. “Stubborn as ever.”

“She also said that if we dare lay a hand on the werewolf girl, she’ll make no hesitance to kick our asses to hell. And . . . as for the alpha . . . she cut her sentence short we weren’t able to know what she actually meant to say.”

“I see. I’ll go see her. Keep watch on the mutt.”

      “Will do, sir!”

Michael then disappeared around the corner and the weak-looking soldier stood in front of Adam, keenly avoiding any eye-contact of some sort. He was obviously scared and one glare from Adam sent him shaking.

A smile crept its way to Adam’s lips. You call this guy a hunter?

Adam did nothing the past few minutes except stare at the guy before him. The guy was just too afraid to even look at him the whole situation looked comical.

With a good amount of effort, Adam lifted the heavy chains that bound him to the wall, causing some clinking sound to echo, which in turn pulled a scream from the throat of the guy before him. The alpha chuckled.

      “Hey, you.” He called.

      “W-w-w-what i-i-i-is it, s-s-s-sir?” He stuttered.

      “You scared of me?”

      “A-a-a-absolutely not.”

      “Really?”

      “N-n-no.”

He chuckled and purposefully emitted a growl from his throat, causing the guy to scream for the second time.

“P-p-p-please stop making fun of me.” He said, frowning.

“Who knew hunters would be this scared?”

The man in front of him went red with shame and it took Adam’s whole willpower not to laugh to embarrass him any further.

A few moments later, they heard grunts coming from outside the door followed by a loud thump of heavy bodies hitting the ground. Everything went still silent as both turned their attention at the door. The man before Adam shakily brought the gun out from his side and pointed it to the direction of the door.

The whole situation grew tenser as they waited for the door to open, and when it did, a woman with glowing eyes stepped in, fangs bared. The man made no hesitance to fire. Load of bullets were shot to the direction of the woman but she easily evaded it like it was no hard work.

Adam sniffed the air and muttered. “Werewolf.”

The woman stepped forward with feral grace and kicked the gun out of the man’s hand with a straight leg. The gun skidded to the other side of the room and a punch went right for the face of the poor guy, knocking him out.

Adam looked up at the woman before him and saw a striking resemblance. Brown hair that bounced with soft curls, plump lips and captivating cat-like eyes . . . there was no doubt.

It was the woman in the picture. The picture that came along with Marco’s report except that this woman had aged considerably since the time the picture was taken.

The woman that was named to be Akira’s mother.

      Kathrynne Flynn Martins.

Akira’s mother is back in the game! I left you on a cliffhanger so I apologize for that. :D But this whole thing’s reaching its climax I couldn’t help but put you on the edge! Did that shock you?
