Beth's POV:
My grip on my sister's wrist and the branch was tight. Of course, that was the only thing keeping us both from death. I wasn't sure who or what that thing was that chased us, but I knew that the real danger was what could happen if I let go.
My heart was in my throat. Oh god, please, get us out of this. I looked up at the edge of the cliff and tried to determine if I could possibly get Hannah up. A blast of fire from something up there made me decide against it. Shit! What is going on?!
"Hold on!" I said, tightening my grip on Hannah's wrist. I looked down at Hannah, and realized this may be the last time we ever saw each other.
"Hold on!" I repeated. Hannah nodded. I looked back up at the cliff, only to see a man leaning over the ledge. He had a pair of goggles and a bandana that covered his mouth. His hand was held out to mine. I felt like crying when I saw he couldn't reach us.
What do I do? I thought, almost crying. If I keep holding on, this branch could break. I have to do something. If I let go, it would be the same thing. If I let go of Hannah's wrist, I'd be saving myself, but I'd be letting Hannah die...
Let go and fall with Hannah, or let go of Hannah.
I shut my eyes as my grip loosened. "I'm so sorry..." I managed to mumble. Her fingers slid over my wrist, pulling my favorite bracelet with her. She let out of horrifying scream as she fell.
I looked up at the man, his hand still out to help me. I quickly grabbed onto his wrist, and let him pull me up.
