Chapter 4: Fimbulwinter

Scene One

  
It was rare for Sigrun to come during the day, as often times she would only come at night to speak with her sisters.

Keahi watched with nervousness as the Valkyrie Queen's wingbeats could be heard as she entered into the camp. Eir greeted her, giving a small bow, while Gunnr seemed to stare off into space at the bottom of a tree, her injured wing still in a leaf cast.

Sigrun didn't seem to mind Gunnr's unfocused stare, and instead, flew up to the branch above her head, and sat down.

The Godlings murmured to one another, obvious nervousness and anxiety being tossed around.

Keahi glanced at the others, spotting Quartz and Earthquake muttering to one another, while Argent still seemed shaken up by what he had found a moon prior.

Seneca was oddly still and Estrid looked like she had seen a ghost as she sat next to her.

Sigrun opened her large wings, and the talking quieted down. Her blue eyes glanced at them all below. Keahi could have swore he saw her claws grip the bark of the branch and her fur bristle the tiniest bit.

Was she nervous too?

"Young Godlings, as I'm sure you've heard yesterday, a loud voice announcement the beginning of Fimbulwinter. I'm not sure how many of you know of the story of Ragnarök, but..."

Sigrun took a pause, seemingly stuck on saying whatever she was going to say. Keahi could see her wings trembling the tiniest bit.

"But... it is out duty as Valkyries to tell you it,"

The Queen took a deep breath.

"A long time ago, The All-Father, Odin, was told of a prophecy. In the prophecy, all Gods and Goddesses would fall, and the end of the world we know would come to an end, and be reborn into a better place. Odin grew obsessed with it, and looked for every ounce of knowledge he could about it,"

"The prophecy spoke of three beings that would be the main reason for Ragnarök. The Bound Wolf, The World Serpent, and Hel. So, when they were born, Odin sought to never let them gain the power they would have when Ragnarök comes. The World Serpent was thrown into the sea, Hel was cast down into Helhiem, and The Wolf was tripped and bound in a cloth that was unbreakable,"

"Only, Odin didn't know he had given them the power that they needed to start Ragnarök. Hel had her army, The World Serpent had an endless amount of food, and The Wolf was given the unbridled hatred he needed to kill Odin with,"

"The beginning of Ragnarök in the start of Fimbulwinter. A long, cold, endless winter for three years. Then, The Wolf and World Serpent will start to break from their bounds. Then, it's only an unknown amount of time before Hati and Sköll chase the sun and moon and devour them. That is when Ragnörak will truly happen,"

"The start of Fimbulwinter comes with the death of Baldur... meaning he was somehow still alive until now."

Keahi felt his blood ice over. Baldur was... dead? Actually, dead?

"But, with that, that means some of the Gods might still be out there. But, if not, it will be you all who fight in Ragnarök."

Muttering enveloped the camp, cats talking to one another in whispers. Quartz took a step forward, her eyes looking up the Valkyrie Queen.

"But, if we are to fight in Ragnarök, wouldn't that mean... we would die instead?"

Sigrun froze, and stared down from her branch. Immediately the Godlings started to chatter louder. Argent stepped forward.

"What would we even be fighting anyways besides Loki's other kids? Is it even worth fighting over?"

"What if some of us don't want to fight? Couldn't we calm The Wolf and World Serpent?" Estrid asked.

More and more questions were thrown, Keahi could see Sigrun getting more and more irritated. She threw her wings out, and gave a quick yowl.

"I don't know what you will face! Odin wouldn't share that information with me and Queen Freya couldn't tell me before she passed. We just know that you will be the only ones to save all of the Nine Realms. I don't know from what, but it will be up to you all to win Ragnarök!"

Lunmir rose a paw, like a student waiting for be called.

"But... Odin is dead. Ragnarök will be for nothing,"

Sigrun sat still for a moment.

"Even if Odin is dead... Fimbulwinter is here, and no matter what, Ragnarök will happen. I just want you all prepared. It won't happen for a long time from now, if that help eases your minds. You have time, and please, use that time wisely."

Scene Two

Yrsa, Estrid, and Seneca walked out of camp around sun high. Eir had sent them to explore the abandoned church Argent had found the moon before.

The snow had since gotten taller once again, Seneca almost blending perfectly into the snow while Yrsa stood out against it heavily.

Estrid was tailing behind them, jumping from where Seneca and Yrsa has made their imprints. The snow was too high to walk through, and the three resorted into jumping instead.

"See anything yet?" Estrid asked, calling out as she took another leap. Yrsa craned her neck to see.

"I see something up ahead. Seneca, do you have a better view on it?"

The while molly stopped, and she also craned her neck to see.

"Yeah, I can see stone walls. Must be the church."

After a few more minutes, the patrol got to the abandoned church, happily finding most the snow was actually more shallow here then in the forest.

The cobblestone walls of the church were cracked and made large archways above them. Stained glass was scattered along the floor, and the seats around them were torn and most definitely seemed unsafe to jump and lay down on.

Seneca lead the way inside, and once in, she noticed a large symbol that was carved from wood. A symbol she herself wasn't familiar with, but bore some similarities to her mother's and Yrsa' mother's.

Yrsa pointed with her tail to a room that came off to the side. "That must be the room Argent was talking about."

The three mollies went closer to the room, Yrsa taking the first step inside.

The room was dark, on the wall hung an old lantern that had seem better ways. The air was filled with the scent of mold and stale air.

They came inside, and once their eyes adjusted, could see more of the room.

To the right of the room, hung on the wall, was a tapestry. It was ragged and faded, but inscription could be seen.

Seneca jumped onto the wooden desk right below it, looking at the words.

"It looks like some kinda of message..."

Estrid looked up to her, Yrsa poking around the room.

"It says... 'And so, when the three year winter rears it's end, when the head has been found, when the two beasts rise, when wings have fallen, and when the realms unite, then the raven's wings will be plucked'"

Estrid tilted her head. "What does that all mean?"

Seneca looked over the tapestry. The dye used on it had long been faded, and the faint outline could only be seen. A large mass seemed to surround a bird, a large wolf and serpent below it. Far above the mass and all, there was a symbol, just like the one from the main room.

"I... don't know what it means... but, whatever it is, it doesn't look good."

Yrsa's voice called from the other side of the room.

"Guys! Check this out!" She called. The two mollies joined the other. Yrsa was standing in front of an old wooden chest, it's lid open for the world to see.

Inside was a small leather pouch, a scroll, and what looked to be...

"Runes?" Seneca muttered.

"Yeah, a bunch of them too. I wonder if whoever was here was collecting them," Yrsa muttered.

"We should take them back to camp, maybe one of the Valkyrie or Kratos knows something about it," Estrid suggested.

So, they took the items with them, and headed back to camp. On the way out, Seneca glanced one more time to the tapestry.

What did it mean?

A loud booming voice was heard announcing Fimbulwinter has arrived. A discussion chain will be place for everyone to discuss what this means and what to do.

Kratos has offered to train cats as to make up for his attack a few moons ago

Atreus will now be able to join hunting patrol. When he joins, they're in a 20% chance of bringing home some massive prey!

Gunnr is not going to be able to train this moon due to being hurt!

Seneca, Estrid, and Yrsa explored the abandoned church. They brought back a small leather pouch, a scroll, and 10 Runes. A chain containing the words of the scroll will be in the comments along with a discussion chain.

Prey is starting to be harder to come by...

Sigrun is in camp

Gunnr and Eir have left behind to watch over the Children.
