Vegas scowled at a few bright sun rays hit his eyes. He sat up after trying to hold back his shock. Right when he pushed his hand down, a sudden stinging pain made him frowned. Then, Vegas gradually remembered what had happened.

He had lingered for longer time on the yacht because he had wanted to kill the filthy casino owner, hence he inhaled the luring incense more than anyone. Even so, his foggy mind couldn't defeat the desire to kill the bastard, and he had succeeded in killing the enemy, but not without taking a bullet to his arm.

He recalled sinking into the water because his body finally gave up. The other bodyguards instinctively swam ahead because those damn people above were madly shooting into the sea. Vegas at that time had self-mocked that a person like him had to die alone in the ocean like this. However, the last thing he registered before passing out was a man approaching him.

Pete.

He had swam a long way, only a little further to reach the Main Family's rescue canoe.

But he swam back to Vegas. Vegas was really confused about his actions.

All his life, Vegas has always believed that human relationships are based on benefits, there is no reason to help someone without receiving something in return.

This guy must have been serving Tankhun for too long that he became stupid like him.

Veas was immersed in his own thoughts, until the sound of door opening bright him back to reality. His hands were clenched into ready to fight fists if the other was an enemy. But when he saw the person, for a moment he didn't know how to react.

Pete was dressed in a holiday outfit - shorts and colorful shirt. It should have been totally normal, if he didn't wear a rabbit headband.

What the hell?

Pete's soft humming sound stopped when he realized that Vegas was awake. He stood awkwardly by the door he came in.

Why was Vegas's stare so scary?

"Good morning, Khun Vegas."

Pete attempted at a friendly greeting to break this intense mood. But goddamn Vegas refused to cooperate with him.

He had no choice but to continue walking into the room and placed the tray of food he had been holding on the table.

"Khun Vegas, since you're awake now, come here to eat if you are hungry."

"What is this place?"

He paid no attention to Pete and started questioning promptly. Only then did Vegas notice that he was in a normal room that was neither large or small, simply decorated that looks like a cheap inn.

"You have slept for a full day. When we were hit by the fishing boat, we were rescued by the fishermen and brought to their island."

The fisherman who saved them both had a friend who run an inn, they let them stay in there and request for nearby doctor to come and remove the bullet. Since they had a bullet wound, it would have been a hassle if they went to the hospital. When Pete woke up later that day, everything was already taken care of.

"I'm awake now, let's go."

Vegas hates being in a place where he doesn't know anything about it.

Vegas spoke in a low deep voice that Pete could tell he was irritated, but he also couldn't help it.

"The thing is... we can't go anywhere right now. The sea is rough so no boats can sail."

"Then when can we leave?" - Vegas frowned.

"In half a month."

Pete was trembling. He prayed that Vegas wasn't like his khun noo Tankhun who would throw a tantrum when things go south. Please don't be mad like him.

Vegas didn't say anything and got out of bed. Pete suddenly let out a loud scream then turned away.

Vegas was stark naked except for the pile of gauze on the wound of his arm. Every part of his body was exposed, yet he stood there calmly as if Pete wasn't there.

"Where's my stuff?"

Pete cleared his throat, trying his best to calm down. "There are several outfits in the closet, just take some of them."

Pete swore to God that he really forgot that Vegas had no clothes on, not that he purposely didn't tell him.

Pete sighed in relief when he saw a clothed man sitting down across from him. Normally, Vegas was a scary man but his remarks and fake smile were always present. Why was he so silent today, he seemed like a different person.

More frightening than usual. Pete, don't open your mouth unless it's necessary.

Pete picked up the chopsticks and began eating. He can endure any suffering other than starving himself. After eating for a while, Pete glanced up briefly to see why the opposite man froze. Only to see Vegas frowned, holding a spoon midair while staring at the plates of food in front.

"Khun Vegas, what's the matter?"

"Spicy."

At this point, Pete noticed that Vegas's face was indeed a little red.

"Oh, you can't eat this! You have to eat porridge."

Pete hurriedly snatched the old spoon from Vegas's hand, replaced it with a clean spoon, and put the porridge into his bowl.

Pete's natural self would have grumbled as usual, but in a brief moment, he shut up as he realized he was with a dangerous man.

He didn't eat or drink all day. He had small cuts all over his body and a recovering bullet wound. He couldn't even eat spicy food, yet he still dig the food and put it in his mouth. Did he intend to remain still throughout the meal if Pete didn't notice and ask?

It was just in Pete's head, he wouldn't dare to say those things out loud even if he was given a large sum of money. Vegas was unpredictable, who knows when he would get mad.

Pete, calm down, just try to put up with him in half a month. Yes, after half a month, he can go back to khun noo Tankhun.

"Have you called Kinn?" - Vegas asked.

"Um, the phone was gone."

"..."

"..."

"You don't remember your employer's number?"

"Do you remember your cousin's number?"

"No."

They both resumed eating their respective dish in silence. Vegas hated to admit that they were really stranded on this island.

By evening, perhaps the wound was soaked in water for a while, Vegas had a fever again. He had many fever in the past, all he did was to close his eyes and endure the irritation until it was over.

It was what Vegas always did.

He was taught that in order to be powerful, one must not display weakness in front of others. People are especially vulnerable at times of illness, and he can't show anyone that side of him.

The fever did more damage to him than he anticipated. He kept tossing and turning in bed, silently scolded himself why he had to feel so uncomfortable everytime he got ill.

Vegas's struggle woke Pete up. A bodyguard should be a light sleeper, because he needs to wake up instantly if anything happens. Although it frustrated for Pete to be woken up, Pete still moved to Vegas's side. Only then he smelled a very strong agarwood scent in the air.

His pheromone wasn't stable.

Pete had to take a chance to touch Vegas's forehand because the other person wouldn't react despite Pete being close by. Yes, he indeed had a fever.

Vegas moved away from Pete's hand, turning his face away. He assumed he successfully got rid of Pete when heard the door creaked open. After a while, the door swung open again.

"Vegas? You are having a fever. Get up and take this medicine."

"I don't have a fever."

Why was he refusing to take medicine, he was not a child.

"Listen to me, it's not bitter na. You'll feel better soon."

In an effort to coax this big guy to take his medication, Pete had to suffer the strong agarwood scent around him. What if the fever get higher and make his brain become like Tankhun, Pete wouldn't know what to do.

"Let's get up and take just one pill. It's not bitter at all."

He took the liberty to run his hand through Vegas's hair and caress his back, hoping that he would be less stubborn. This is what he used to do with children in his village when they refused to take the medicine. He secretly hoped it would work this time too.

Vegas finally gave in and turn around. He stared at Pete until he almost break, then took the pill from Pete's palm and put it in his mouth.

"Alright, rest well. You'll be fine in the morning."

Pete was about to get up to go back to his bed when Vegas abruptly pulled him back. The force was so great that he fell onto the bed. Before he had a chance to react, he was engulfed in Vegas's hug.

"What are you doing?"

"Can you stay with me? I feel irritated, I don't wanna be alone."

But your strong pheromone is influencing me, it is not bad but I am scared.

"I will be on the bed next to you."

Pete fought against the other man to escape. He unintentionally hit Vegas's wound, causing him to groan slightly while keeping his strong grip. Pete did not want to hurt the patient, so he stayed still.

Let's say that this is one way of taking care of the giant baby patient. Vegas had been acting weird all day.

Pete has always been this soft-hearted for other people. He was not aware, that his softness made Vegas's dubious feelings worse.

Vegas didn't know what was driving him crazy, but he wanted to do what he just did. A few days ago, he didn't bat an eye on a bodyguard, and now he wanted to hug him close to him. Perhaps he found it hard to suffer the fever alone, perhaps the faint smell of jasmine tea comforted him, perhaps he was greedy for the attention and care he had never received in this life.

Maybe, he just wanted to see the light.

That night, one person drifted into the best slumber he hasn't had for a long time, one person finally saw the light of his life.
