II Corinthians 2:7-8

"So that, on the contrary, you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with too much sorrow."

"Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him."

(Paul here is talking about one who wrongs you, who is exceedingly sorrowful and seeks to apologize for it sincerely. He says to forgive that person, for if you don't, they might end up drowning in their own sorrow.)
