She fell asleep when it was about to sundown, exhausted by the time they spent together.

Though Delilah was not conscious of anything around her, her husband decided not to close his eyes as well. He couldn't sleep. Couldn't sleep when she looked so beautiful beside him. He used that time in beholding her. Her lovely wife.

Whatever happened in the past few days, he still had in his mind. So was in her mind. The difference was, he was ready to let go of it while Delilah couldn't put those thoughts out of her head.

He didn't blame her though.

Till now, she only heard he was a criminal but seeing from eyes was a different experience.

She expected him to be a nice person. The first time he met her, she loved the beautiful idea of it, that's why he even hid his identity but when it was revealed, she was hurt to know he did what her God considered wrong.

Everything that was wrong and crushed in the law was done by him. Whatever they called darkness and sin was molded into him. But what sparked the desire to keep her with him was that she still embraced him. He could still see the love in her eyes. He wasn't blind to it.

She could throw him away after knowing that he was a ruthless killer but she didn't deny him. The memory of her gentle touches on his bare skin reminded him of the longing she had in her heart for him even though he was right in her arms!

However, the melancholy in her eyes couldn't hide either from him. Why caused her such grief? He couldn't ask her because he knew it.

Poor woman, still somewhere dreamed of finding good in him when he was all darkness within.

He sighed, playing with the curly locks of her hair. They wrapped around his finger very easily and he glid the tip of it above her warm skin, tracing the hickies given by him.

How lovely she was, he thought again. He couldn't get enough of her.

To break the sweet idea he was getting for her, his phone rang. He turned around, taking it from the nightstand. The screen showed the name and he sat upright to answer the call.

Delilah, on the other hand, was waken up by the sound and the stirring. She groggily looked up at his bare back with red marks stretched down on it. It was her doing, and she knew it.

"It was urgent," he replied the caller, taking a deep breath afterward. "I can understand. On my way. Take good care of him." The last words sent a chill down her spine because they didn't sound as sweet as the words were.

Was there someone else he was going to kill? She wondered, getting up while keeping the sheet on her chest.

Nathaniel sensed her presence, only to face her and kiss her temple.

He smiled at her, replying to the caller. "I don't care what he's saying. I just need the deal done and I've my ways if he doesn't prefer me being nice."

She swallowed, doubtfully eyeing the phone in his loose grip. He hummed and cut the line, to say, "I need to leave."

She didn't say anything. Maybe she knew where he was going and she didn't want to know further. She just nodded her head and received a kiss on her forehead.

Her eyes closed for a brief moment as she inhaled a wavering breath. Since when did she start getting nervous over such things?

He left the bed and dragged up his boxers. She looked away, meanwhile, he changed. He grabbed a jacket and ran a hand through his hair. Rounding about the bed, he came to her and pecked her lips.

"Take care, okay?"

She locked her bottom lip, nodding her head. "You, too." He smiled and left.
