As you know the victorians were kinda... Obsessed with death.

1) After a family or friend died you would have to dress in your mourning clothes for a set amount of time depending on the person who died. This time ranged from three months to about two years

Husband died - two years
For children and parents - one year
Grandparents and siblings - six months
Aunts and uncles - two months
Great aunts and uncles - six weeks
First cousins - four weeks

2) A lot of people would take a lock of their dead loved one's hair or more to make jewelry out of it. Widows would wear lockets around their necks with their dead husband's hair in it.

3) Mourning dresses were made out of non-reflective paramatta silk or the cheaper bombazine. It also sometimes have a mix of arsenic and a couple other things soaked into it

4) Funerals would be held in the home and then everyone would walk to the cemetery.

5) Right after death the windows would be opened so the soul of the person doesn't get trapped in the house. The mirrors would also be covered with black fabric so the soul would not go into the mirror.

6) When the deceased's coffin is being carried out of the house they would go feet first so the deceased wouldn't see the house and decided to stay upon leaving.
