"I'm sorry, but we have only two beds left here. Will you be alright with that?"

The soldier asked, as Ellen, Eunbi and Taehyung glanced at each other. They were standing in one of the tents, and there were around 20 other men and women in it, on their beds.

"Take it. We should be thankful for anything right now."
Taehyung says in a low voice.

The medics had agreed to take care of Yoongi cost-free because Jimin and Jungkook were in the army, especially because of Jungkook's position.

"Okay, we'll take it. Thank you so much."
Ellen says, her hand placed on Hyunwoo's shoulder. The soldier smiles before bowing and walking past them, looking to the needs of the other people around them.

Hyunwoo treads to one of the beds, immediately lying down and curling up, his eyes closing shut instantly. Ellen sighs, crouching down beside him, stroking his hair.

The crying girl had fallen asleep in Eunbi's arms, and she gently placed her on the other bed.

"Eunbi, you need to eat."
Taehyung says, turning to her. Just then, a woman in a white cloak hurried upto them.

"Jeon Eunbi?"
She calls out, and Eunbi turns around immediately.
"Yes?"

"Please follow me to the medication ward."
Eunbi looks back at Taehyung and Ellen, and they give her encouraging nods before she follows the woman out.

Her legs were aching, and she hadn't eaten. She knew it was bad for the baby, and she was nervous as to why she was being called.

Entering the tent, the woman smiles comfortingly at her.
"I hear you're pregnant. How far along?"
"Three and a half months now."

The woman nods, guiding her to a small bed.
"I'd like to give you a check up, considering the condition you were in upon arrival. May I?"
Eunbi hesitates, her hand defensively making its way to her stomach.

"Don't worry, I'll just be checking your weight, blood pressure and doing some ultrasound tests on you. I'll also prescribe you with some vitamins you have to take on a daily basis, alright?"

Eunbi takes a deep breath, her hands getting clammy as she nods.

She steps on the weighing machine, her heart thumping loudly inside her.

The doctor frowns.
"You're underweight."
Eunbi's breaths hitches as she looks down immediately.
"W-what?"

The woman smiles, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Don't worry, Eunbi. This is easily solvable with an increased food consumption. You need to put on at least 5 pounds this week if you don't want any complications."

Eunbi nibbles on her lower lip as she nods, guiding her to the bed and taking her blood pressure.
"You're nervous, but your blood pressure is fine. Lay down, please."

She lets out a deep breath, and stiffens when the woman lifts her shirt up, exposing her newly forming baby bump. She rubs a clear gel over her belly, and goosebumps rush over her skin at the cool waves the feeling sends through her body.

Gliding the transducer over her belly, Eunbi's heart races inside her when she sees the doctor staring closely at the screen. She smiles wide, turning the screen to Eunbi.

"Look, can you see it?"

And at that moment, a whirl of emotions slam into her like a speeding truck, as she sees the faint outline of a curled organism on the screen. It didn't have much of a shape yet, but she could tell the difference.

Her hand lifts up to her mouth as tears drop down her cheeks. The overwhelming love she felt at the moment was like no other, and her chest heaved like the rise and falls of the gentle ocean tides.

Hey there, little baby. I can see you, and I can already tell you're going to be such a beautiful human being.

"Would you like to hear it's heartbeat?"

Eunbi's eyes snap up to her.

"Y-You can do that?"

"Of course!"
The woman exclaims, beaming happily. It wasn't an often circumstance for her to do ultrasound tests in the middle of a war wrecked era, and she was happy to see a nurturing life, a sign of hope in times like these.

After rummaging about on the machine, she brings a fetal Doppler to her belly, gliding it over the gelled skin until she stops at a certain place.

Overwhelming tears race down Eunbi's face when she hears the sound of a little racing heartbeat as she stares at the ultrasound on the screen.

I wish your father was here to listen to your heartbeat, little baby. He would be so happy to see you right now.

The doctor smiles, her heart warming up at the sight.
"You're a strong woman, Eunbi. Stronger than you know. It's not easy to mother a child in the absence of your husband."

Eunbi smiles through her raging tears, a small laugh escaping her lips as the doctor wipes off the gel, and Eunbi's hand takes it's place, gently rubbing the surface.

Your heart was wild, were you just as nervous as me, little one?

The doctor hands her a small brown packet.
"Here. These are your vitamins, please take them everyday and make sure to eat triple your usual quantity. I know it will be difficult with the shortage of food in the camp, but please do try."

Eunbi smiles, patting the doctor's hand as she receives the packet.
"Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it."
The doctor grins back at her.
"I'm just doing my job. By the way, call me Tzuyu."

"I didn't know you could drive tanks."

Jungkook smiles, patting Namjoon's shoulder as he stands between the seats of Namjoon and Jimin.

"There are a lot of things you don't know about me, General."

Namjoon grins, as the tank crushes the twigs and trees in it's path. The word 'General' felt weird leaving his mouth when addressing Jungkook, but since there were new soldiers around, he didn't want them to think that Jungkook was being partial.

"Are you sure you want to be the one that shoots, Jimin?"

Jungkook asks, turning to Jimin who glances at him, clearly offended.

"What do you think I am? Stop treating me like a child, General."

Jungkook laughs, ruffling his hair as Jimin swats his hand away. He turns, catching a glimpse of the three soldiers sitting down behind them, their eyes darting between the three of them cautiously.

His laugh slowly fades when he sees one of them in the corner of his eye by the name of Kai nudge Yeonjun, leaning over and whispering something in his ear.

He turns around swiftly, and the three of them sit up straight immediately.

"So, do any of you have any specialties?"

Jungkook asks with a forced smile, trying to sound enthusiastic.

Kai smiles awkwardly, shrugging his shoulders as Jin speaks up.

"I have medical training, so if anyone's hurt, I can look at them."

"That's my job."

Jessi snaps from the side, and Jin twists his mouth at her.

"I can probably do a much better-"

"Guys, guys, both of you can do your jobs, alright?"

Jungkook cuts in, somewhat easing the tension in the atmosphere as Jin huffs, turning away from Jessi and muttering something under his breath.

The attention is diverted elsewhere when everyone startles at the sound of ear-piercing shrieks and high whistles echo through the air.

"They sound like missiles!"

Jimin yells, as Jungkook immediately climbs up the ladder, opening the hatch and staring up above them. His eyes widen when he sees glimpses of black shoot across the sky, leaving behind a stream of white.

"They aren't headed for us. They're going across the border."

Jungkook states, and the soldiers glance at each other.

"They're launching missiles at our cities?"

Yeonjun pipes up, his face lost in confusion.

"How do you know they aren't headed for us?"

Kai asks bluntly, as Jungkook slides down the ladder before turning to Kai.

"They wouldn't bomb their own land, you should know that."

"Technically, they have. They tested their bombs on their own towns and people, so they're capable of doing so, General."

Kai retaliates, tilting his head away from Jungkook. Jungkook narrows his eyes, his jaw clenching at the layback, spiteful attitude of the man sitting before him.

Jimin glances at Kai, a spark of irritation evident in his eyes.

"The General knows what he's saying, Kai. Back off."

Kai raises his hands, shaking his head with a sarcastic laugh.

"I'm not arguing! Sorry if I made you feel that way, General."

He states, not bothering to make eye contact with Jungkook. Letting out a sigh, he decides to drop the matter, walking forward and resting his hands on either seat of Namjoon and Jimin before pulling out his walkie talkie.

"Battalion Casper, come in."

A static noise is the only response as Namjoon snorts.

"Battalion Casper?"

Jungkook frowns as Jimin giggles beside him.

"Hey, shut u-"

"Battalion Casper here, copy. Can you hear me, Battalion Nitro? Over."

Namjoon snorts even louder, and Jungkook reaches over, smacking him on the back of the head.

"Yes, I hear you. What's your position? Have you come across any difficulties? Over."

"We should break out of the woods in about 20 minutes. Apart from spotting missiles above us, we have no difficulties so far. Over"

"Alright, that'll be all. Don't forget to have your soldiers ready to fire once we reach open ground. Over and out."

The line ends, and Jungkook places the walkie talkie back on his belt.

"I'm sorry, but those names are ridiculous."

Namjoon snickers, and Jungkook sighs, shaking his head.

"Don't disrespect the General, Namjoon. Your friend told me off for no reason, but you're allowed to say that? You aren't an exception."

Kai pipes up from the back, and their smiles fade. Jin nudges Kai, shooting him a look as Jungkook begins to feel continual stings of irritation from the man.

He turns around, his fists stiff.

"Kai, we're all on the same team here. I don't like using my rank against someone unless I'm forced to, so you guys are free to talk to me as your equal while maintaining a level of respect. You don't have to worry about them offending me, I've known them for some time."

Kai sits up straight, his arms folding.

"Oh. I thought you were being overly open with them just because they're you're friends, haha!"

He laughs sarcastically, shooting Jungkook a look and Jungkook's eye twitches for a moment before he forces a smile.

"It's none of the sort. Get those ideas out of your head."

Kai raises his hands once more, shaking his head with a crooked smile set across his face.

"Yes sir, I was only... kidding."

Jungkook turns around as Jimin throws a glance at him, mouthing the words, 'I'm sorry.'

Jungkook furrows his eyebrows, quickly waving his sentence away with a firm shake of his head, telling him that he had nothing to apologize for.

Running a frustrated hand through his hair, Jungkook grits his teeth, keeping his eyes shut.

It was only a matter of time before things would begin to spiral out of control, and he just prayed that he would have the strength to hold it all together.
