Warning:SHORT CHAPTER AHEAD!!!!

Shadowpaw's POV

A familiar white pelt, unsheathed claws and fierce accusing blue eyes glared at Shadowpaw, wrathful gaze boring into her.

"Wavepaw!"Shadowpaw gasped. "What-what are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing, Shadowpaw,"Wavepaw retorted. Her blue eyes flashed with hurt. "You were spying on LakeClan for MountainClan! Don't deny it-I know the truth now!"

For a wild moment, Shadowpaw hesitated-wondering if she could manage to trick or dupe Wavepaw, but she knew she couldn't. Wavepaw was too smart to be lied to. "Yes, I was," Shadowpaw admitted guiltily. "But Wavepaw, listen, I-"

But Wavepaw would not listen to her, lashing her tail from side to side. "How could you do such a thing!"she yowled, spitting and unsheathing her claws. "I thought you were trustworthy- I thought those rumors were wrong-but clearly they were right, and I was too foolish to realize that!"

"But, Wavepaw," Shadowpaw objected feebly. "Surely you understand LakeClan would've been slaughtered if I had not begged MountainClan to take mercy on us."

But that was practically the worst thing Shadowpaw could have said, for Wavepaw at once rounded on her, white fur fluffing up in anger. "Took mercy!"she hissed furiously. "You really need a few lessons, don't you? You call that mercy? They slaughtered my mother! Because of you, Shadowpaw, Pineflower is dead! You-you trickster, pretending to feel sorry for me-"

"Wavepaw, I did feel sorry for you,"Shadowpaw intervened, feeling desperate. "I was just-"

"You caused LakeClan to lose the battle,"Wavepaw hissed, her voice rising to a screech. "You killed my mother, and you pretended to feel remorseful about it! Thank goodness I followed you and overheard your low, underhand sneaking! How could you betray me, Pineflower and our clan?"

"Wait-how did you find out?"Shadowpaw asked, curious in spite of herself.

Wavepaw glared at her, hackles raised in defence. "Ripplestar,"she spat.

  "Pardon?"Shadowpaw questioned, confused.

"Ripplestar had his doubts on you,"Wavepaw fired at Shadowpaw. "He's not an idiot, you know. He asked me to track you next time you left camp alone."

"But it was because of me Cloudstar had mercy on us..."Shadowpaw trailed off, hanging her head guiltily.

"Because of you, Pineflower is dead,"Wavepaw breathed, unshed tears sparkling in her eyes. "Because of you, my mother is gone."

Shadowpaw was silent for a moment. When she spoke, her voice was scarcely more of a whisper. "Will you tell Ripplestar?"she asked the dreaded question, fearing the answer.

  Wavepaw was silent, too.

It seemed like eternity before Wavepaw replied.

  "Yes, I will."

Her friend glared at her, blue eyes searing with grief and anger.

  "You deserve it."

Then she turned around and fled, racing through the trees, until she was just a black speck on the horizon.

Shadowpaw stared after her former friend, waves of guilt and loss threatening to consume her.

She had lost everything, and it was all StarClan's fault.
