There is always something different, unique or special about the MC, like a power or ancestry.

* Eh. Your MC is an MC for a reason. Take your wizard powers and go wild. However, I do agree that ancestry can be a little lackluster. I don't care that you're related to Firestar, that means nothing to me, go get more food. You're descended from a villain? Cool, give me a story deconstructing the prejudices of cats and ultimately making them realize these prejudices are wrong, not the MC going "aw :(" for two paragraphs and this plot point never being resolved.
