Crowpaw takes a perilous journey beyond clan boundaries after receiving a dream from his ancestors. He travels with RiverClan littermates Stormfur and Feathertail, ShadowClan she cat Tawnypelt, and two ThunerClan cats; Brambleclaw and his tag-along Squirrelpaw.
Before the young group of cats begin their final departure from the mountains, Crowpaw loses the love of his life. He takes Feathertail's death hard, and once home again, makes his warrior name in memory of his lover, Crowfeather.

Moons later, he begins feeling the same feelings, once again. This time, though, it's not for a RiverClan warrior, but for a ThunderClan medicine cat.
After finding out his kitty crush had his kits right under his nose, Crowfeather has no choice but to take another mate for the sake of his Clan's trust. Nightcloud, Crowfeather, and their son Breezepelt, don't live in peace forever.

Hollyleaf dies in the Great Battle Against the Dark Forest, leaving many cats devastated. Crowfeather takes his daughter's loss hard, just as he did Feathertail's.
Every moment there on after, Crowfeather's mind races with a single breathing thought: I should've been there for her.

When he reaches his breaking point, Crowfeather has the craziest thought.
While off collecting herbs, Jayfeather notices his father, crossing the border. Warning him off, he leaves frustrated, but, Crowfeather doesn't give up easily. The words that came out this father's mouth next stunned the tom. "I want to join ThunderClan."
