Chapter two

Silverheart, Moorspring, and Glowfang led their apprentices through the forest and to the abandoned twolegnest. Moorspring, and the mentors sat in front of the twolegnest and gestured for the apprentices the do the same. "Alright." said Silverheart. "You all know we're here for night training." Enderpaw sat a little bit higher. "So we'll begin with night hunting since it's a bit easier than night fighting." Snarlpaw looked a bit deflated. Enderpaw knew she loved to practice her battle moves and she was also very good at them. She could probably beat up a few warriors for fun if she wanted to. On the other hand, Enderpaw was really good at hunting. She had really sensitive hearing and sense of smell so she was very good at detecting prey even when it couldn't be seen. Plus, thought Enderpaw, there's nothing wrong with my eyesight so that's probably why I'm one of the strongest hunters in the clan and including warriors!

Silverheart began to explain the process of night hunting. "Night hunting is quite like hunting in the day." She said. "Only instead of being able to see as much, you depend more on your other senses like smell, or hearing. We can also use our whiskers when we're hunting in deep undergrowth like the patch of brambles near the old fox den." Enderpaw's whiskers twitched approvingly. Now she was really, really glad that she had an extra sensitive sense of hearing and smell.

Now Glowfang took over the discussion. "Night hunting is quite difficult and even us warriors, so don't feel bad if you don't get the hang of it on the first try."

Just you wait! thought Enderpaw defiantly. But she held her tongue as Moorspring spoke. "We won't be doing too much night hunting this night. We want you to practice sharpening your smell and hearing for now." Moorspring paused, and then went on. "We're first going to sharpen your hearing."

Glowfang gestured to the twolegnest with his tail. "You three apprentices are going to play something like a survival game." Enderpaw cocked her head interestingly.

"You will each roll in some hay inside the twolegnest." explained Glowfang. "It'll cover up most of your scent. Then, two of you will go inside and hide. The cat outside comes in when one of us mentors call you, and you try to find the other two cats!"

All three apprentices quivered in excitement. "When can we start?" piped up Snarlpaw. Silverheart purred in amusement. "Wait! You have to roll in the hay first!" Without warning, all three apprentices bounded into the twolegnest and started rolling around and flinging the hay around. Soon enough, all three apprentices were covered in hay and smelled exactly like it too!

Silverheart nodded to Snarlpaw. "You can start. Cover your eyes. I'll tell you when Shimmerpaw and Enderpaw are done hiding.

Snarlpaw nodded. Then, she turned around, and crouched, and covered her eyes.
