Enderpaw was very tired after her night training. It didn't help with the fact that Silverheart said that the training session dragged on longer than it was supposed to be. Enderpaw quietly walked through the bramble tunnel mewing a polite greeting to Pearlmuzzle who was on guard for the night. Enderpaw walked across the clearing and towards the apprentices den where she pushed through the bramble screen and collapsed into her warm and welcoming nest. She was dimly aware of Shimmerpaw and Snarlpaw settling down beside her.

       When she woke up, it was just nearly dawn so she trotted outside to the camp clearing. Most of the clan were still asleep but she could here Pouncekit and Flintkit mewling in the honeysuckle bush that served as the nursery, and Lakestroke quietly shushing them while Glowfang gently cleaned the kits up after their fattening meal of milk. She heard Darkspots stretching in the warriors den.

"Are you liking your mentor Enderpaw?"

       Enderpaw looked back to see Flowerstep behind her, washing away at her pelt and whiskers.

        Enderpaw nodded enthusiastically. "Silverheart is great! She's really patient with me and even my sisters and she's already taught me so much! I can't wait to learn even more from her!"

      Flowerstep purred in amusement. "I agree. When I was her apprentice, she was so kind to me and she never scolded me when I made a sincere mistake in training. She knew it was not by disobedience, but by misunderstanding or needing practice."

       There was a rustling above them and Deerstar emerged from her den in the crevices of highrock. She peered down at them and gestured with her tail. "Since you two are up so early, you can do the border patrol."

       Enderpaw looked back at the warriors den where Silverheart was sleeping and back at Deerstar.

       Deerstar nodded at her. "Silverheart will be going with you. Take Darkspots with you as well."

      Flowerstep waved her tail to get Enderpaw's attention. "I'll go wake them up!" She darted away into the warriors den.

     Enderpaw went to the entrance of the camp and waited for her clan mates to come out of the warriors den to do the border patrol.

      Darkspots stepped out of the warriors den and trotted towards Enderpaw with Flowerstep and Silverheart on his tail. "Good morning Enderpaw".

     Enderpaw nodded a greeting to him before letting Flowerstep take the lead of the patrol. Enderpaw fell in step with Silverheart as they filed out of the camp. Soon enough, they reached their first scent marker. Darkspots stepped up and sprayed the broken tree stump and moved on. They stopped beside a clump of sedge near the border of the river separating them from DropletClan and Enderpaw stepped up to it to spray the roots.

By sunhigh, they were done and headed back towards the camp.
