10 YEARS BEFORE:

"I SAID COME DOWN!"

The eldritch darkness of that night would never escape his memory. He clearly remembered the pitch-black curtain that blended with the rest of the sky.   The never-ending blackness consumed everything, except for the luminous stars which stood out like pebbles   among the ocean of blackness.

He could remember his tears rolling down his rosy cheek, a small teddy bear tugged tightly under his arm. It was just him and his teddy bear trapped in a deserted place. She wasn't there to protect him and tell him everything was going to be alright.

"Hey! Kid! Watcha doin'?"

The small kid suddenly felt like the happiest person on earth, he wiped his tears and said in a worried tone," I ... I...alone."

Roberto, the monster masked in a human's body, plastered a huge grin that spoke a thousand words. "Come with me, kid."

Another flashback recorded through his mind. Loud voices. Radiant light. Heavy tears. Torn teddy bear.

"He's a kid, Roberto."

The words echoed  and the sound of Roberto's laughter still rang through his mind.

Kade stared at his clenched hands, his eyes squinting with anger. He didn't feel like begging for money today; their sympathetic and judgmental stares haunt him. Fake stories. Fake tears. He always felt disgusted with himself when he received money from strangers. He felt like Roberto and he didn't like this feeling at all. He felt useless and worthless. And the most pathetic thing, he was absolutely hopeless.

"COME DOWN!"

Kade sighed, not wanting to think about the consequences if he didn't obey his master. He didn't want to think about his fierce eyes or the smirk playing onto his lips. He definitely enjoys every second of hurting him. If there was heaven and hell, Kade hoped Roberto would be tortured and tormented.

"Kade, come on. You don't want to get beaten up now, do you?" His friend, James, said, his voice barely a whisper. The little boy sighed as he stood up, his vision clouded with thoughts; thoughts a small boy shouldn't even think of. Thoughts no one should think of. Thoughts like killing himself.  James stopped, his eyes lingering  at the cigarette for a few seconds before glaring at Kade, "you never listen to me."

Kade knew exactly what he was talking about.

How can a simple cigarette harm him when he's already dead on the inside? Everything around him seems like a blur and his world feels like a sick nightmare he witnesses  daily. Breathing in the ugly taste of his life. Kade, his name is, and this is his story.

Deethewriter will giveaway a featured spot in one of her upcoming stories. The giveaway is open internationally.
