Kokonoe: Speed... it's a fundamental concept for all living things, no matter what world you stumble upon.

Junko: Yep! If you wanna swing your blade you better be fast enough to pull it out cause these two are too fast for you!

Kokonoe: Sonic, the knight of the wind.

Ann: And Ruby Rose, the red huntress.

Kokonoe: The stage is set and the combatants are ready.

Junko: It's time for a Death Battle!

In the Phantom Field, Sonic and Ruby fell from the sky. Sonic landed on his feet while Ruby landed on her butt.

Ruby: Ow ow ow ow... 

Sonic: Woah, where am I?

They both hear System XX's voice.

System XX: Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to the Blue vs Red battle of champions! Looks like Red vs Blue was already taken.

Ruby: Um... what now?

System XX: The rules are simple. You two fight each other and the winner gets to go home.

Ruby: What? I thought we went over this. I'm not going to fight some random-

System XX: Hey, just between me and you, that guy has a really interesting sword.

Ruby: Wait really?

Just then, Caliburn came up from behind Sonic.

Caliburn: I'll have you know I am more than just interesting! Sir Sonic, you aren't seriously considering this are you?

Sonic: Well...

Ruby: A talking sword! So cool! I take it back, I gotta see that thing in action!

Ruby takes out Cresent Rose with a smile. Sonic rubbed his nose and smirked.

Sonic: Heh, sounds like fun. Let's see who's faster!

Ruby dashed at Sonic and swung her scythe but Sonic was already behind her. She turned around and swung again but he jumped over her and went for a homing attack. Ruby blocked it and pushed him back as he landed on his feet. She swung her scythe into the ground.

Ruby: Cypod Shot!

She fired two shots from the top of her scythe and Sonic was quick to dodge them before dashing at Ruby. 

Sonic: Too slow!

He swung his sword and she turned into a red wisp, flying into the air and reforming before turning her scythe into a gun, shooting a powerful projectile down on him. He quickly blocked it and as soon as Ruby landed on her feet, he dashed at her swinging his sword again. Ruby swung her scythe and they clashed before Sonic went for another swing. Ruby blocked it and was knocked back but managed to catch herself.

Caliburn: Her weapon is very unique. Be careful in your approach.

Sonic: Then I'll just take it out of her hands!

He dashed at Ruby, whose scythe turned into an enormous polearm. She swung it and Sonic jumped over the blade before spinning around Ruby, creating a tornado that sent Cresent Rose flying out of Ruby's hands. Ruby quickly turned into a red wisp and flew into the air before reforming and grabbing her weapon. She turned it into a gun and started firing at Sonic who was running and dodging. She flew down to his left, turning Cresent Rose back into a scythe and going for a swing but he dodged it and she slid on her feet. 

System XX: You can do it, Ruby! Rah, rah, Ruby! Here we go, Ruby, here we go!

Ruby: Not helping!

Sonic went for a boost and charged at her. Ruby tried to block it with a barrier but was sent flying into the sky. She caught herself and used her Semblance to fly down to Sonic's right and go for another swing. He slid under the attack and jumped into the air before landing on his feet. Ruby was already behind him and swung her scythe. Sonic swung Caliburn and the two clashed before Ruby kicked him into the air. He recovered quickly and went for another homing attack. Ruby blocked it and dropped to the ground before kicking Sonic into a nearby village. Sonic slid to his feet as Ruby swung her scythe and Sonic blocked her strike. The two of them butted heads.

Caliburn: Did we have a change of scenery? Was this the work of that voice?

System XX: What can I say? I like to keep things interesting.

The two jumped back and Ruby quickly launched herself forward and swung her scythe but Sonic dodged. Ruby nearly ran into a villager but quickly stopped herself as Sonic went for a Spindash. Ruby caught him with her scythe and threw him into the air. He went for a homing attack and Ruby dodged as it created a massive crater. Ruby looked around at the frightened villagers.

Ruby: Seriously? Nobody said anything about there being villagers!

System XX: oh, did I forget to mention that? 

Just then, a giant red dragon flew down and terrorized the village. The villagers started running away in fear as the dragon shot a fireball at both Ruby and Sonic. The two dodged it before looking at each other then looking back at the dragon and dashing at it. The dragon swung its right claw at Ruby and she dodged.

Ruby: Saw that coming!

She jumped up and swung her scythe, cutting its right arm off. The dragon roared in pain and swung its left claws at Sonic, who jumped up and dodged.

Sonic: Too easy!

He swung his sword and cut its left arm off. The dragon roared again and fell to the ground as Sonic and Ruby jumped into the air, swinging their blades and cutting off the dragon's head. the villagers celebrated and awarded Sonic and Ruby. Giving Sonic two chilidogs and Ruby a jar of cookies. They both finished their snacks at the same time and as soon as they did, Ruby jumped onto a nearby building. She turned her scythe into a sniper rifle and aimed it at Sonic, but he was already gone.

Ruby: Huh?

He tapped her on the shoulder as he was right behind her. Ruby quickly turned Cresent Rose back into a scythe and swung it, but Sonic dodged the attack and kicked her off the building, and down onto a moving truck. Sonic then jumped onto the truck as he and Ruby started clashing at rapid speeds with sparks igniting in the air. The truck drove out of the village and high up a mountain. It then made a sharp turn that sent Sonic and Ruby flying off the mountain. The two of them fell into the forest and jumped from tree to tree. Sonic landed on his feet as Ruby went for a downward swing of her scythe.

Ruby: Buzzsaw... strike!

Sonic quickly jumped back and dodged her attack only for her to fire a projectile that sent him flying into multiple trees. Sonic slid on his feet and Ruby shot several more trees and sent them flying at him. He ran at her and jumped over the first one, lid under the second, and kicked the third back at her. Ruby cut it in half as Sonic dashed at her and swung his sword. She dodged, causing him to move past her but he turned around and kicked her off a cliff. She started to fall down a snowy mountain and Sonic was quickly running down after her.

Caliburn: Again with the scene change?

System XX: If you don't like it, blame the writers.

The two of them ran straight through a crate of snowboards and grabbed one before snowboarding down the icy mountain. 

Sonic: Woohoo!

Sonic slides off a ramp and does a backflip before landing and sliding right in front of Ruby.

Sonic: Still too slow!

Ruby rolls her eyes and slides off a bigger ramp and spins around before landing in front of Sonic. As she rides her snowboard, she looks back at Sonic and sticks out her tongue. They both then slide off a much bigger ramp, flying high into the air. Ruby tries to swing Crescent Rose mid-air but Sonic dodges it and kicks Ruby straight down the mountain, through the ground, and into an underground cave.

As she fell, Ruby opened her eyes to see Sonic running down the wall behind her. She quickly changed the ammo of Cresent Rose, replacing it with Fire Dust.

Ruby: Let's see you take this! Ready...

She turned Cresent Rose into a sniper rifle. Sonic quickly tried to jump above her.

Ruby: Fire!

She shot three fireballs up at Sonic, creating a massive explosion above her. But it was ineffective as Sonic had come out of the debris of the explosion with a Flame Shield. He went for a homing attack and sent Ruby crashing to the floor of the cave, creating a massive crater. He then hit her with a flaming homing attack that sent her through the ground and into an underground dungeon. Ruby landed on a giant stone platform and looked up to see Sonic going for a third homing attack. She quickly turned Crescent Rose into a polearm and swung it, breaking his shield and sending him crashing through pillars. He slid on his feet as Cresent Rose turned back into a gun. She shot up at the top of the cave.

Caliburn: Sonic, watch out!

A bunch of rubble came down from the top of the cave and Sonic ran toward Ruby dodging it all. A massive boulder nearly fell in front of him but he cut it out of his way and swung Caliburn at Ruby, who moved out of the way to dodge. Sonic swung again and this time Ruby blocked it.

Sonic: What's wrong? That's all you got?

Ruby pushed Sonic back and loaded Cresent Rose with Gravity Dust.

Ruby: Not even close!

She fired the gun and used the recoil to launch herself at Sonic and swing her scythe. He jumped over her strike and she quickly slid before launching herself back at him. This time she turned into a red wisp and started circling around him at such a speed it created a tornado of her own and sent him flying upwards. 

Sonic: Woah! 

Ruby then reformed above him as Cresent Rose turned into a polearm and she went for a downward thrust. Before she could hit him, time slowed down as Caliburn quickly moved on his own and blocked the strike causing them both to fall and land on their feet.

System XX: And there we go with Caliburn being a party pooper!

Caliburn: Hmph. So uncivilized.

Ruby reloaded Cresent Rose with Ice dust and turned it back into a scythe before swinging it rapidly and firing icicles at Sonic. He dodged two of them and tried to block the third, which ended up freezing Caliburn. 

Sonic: What?

Ruby dashed at him and went to swing her scythe but Sonic shrunk himself to dodge the attack. He ran up her weapon and jumped over her shoulder before swinging his blade and sending her flying. The ice shattered on impact as Ruby landed on her feet.

Caliburn: Those icicles freeze on contact. Be very careful.

Sonic: Got it! 

Ruby dashed at him and started swinging her scythe but he was dodging them all. Ruby then managed to kick Sonic off the platform. He fell but stabbed the wall of the cave to prevent himself from falling further. He looked down to see a ton of water below. He then looked up to see Ruby coming down after him. He quickly ran up the wall but she fired at him and froze him solid before kicking him into the water. She then saw an opening in the cave and flew out of it.

Meanwhile, Sonic crashed into the bottom of the water as the ice shattered. he quickly used a water shield and ran out of the water, going through the same exit as Ruby and chasing her through the beach of a massive island. 

Ruby was flying above him. She turned her scythe into a gun and started firing icicles at him. Sonic kept running, bouncing around and dodging the projectiles as a giant burst of ice surrounded the beach. He then turned around and ran up one of the chunks of ice, flying into the air to swing his sword at Ruby. She splits herself into three before reforming on the ground. 

Sonic saw this and went for a homing attack but Ruby blocked it and pushed him toward the water. He immediately started running on the water with a smile on his face as he ran back to the beach.

Sonic: Heh, let's do this!

He started running at such a high speed it was creating a massive hurricane. Ruby looked at this in amazement. She grinned and turned her gun back into a scythe.

Ruby; Holy cow! Alright, my turn! Petal... Burst!!!

She unleashed a huge burst of speed, going straight through the hurricane as well as breaking through Sonic's shield. The wind unleashed by her petal burst sent Sonic flying into the forest. She flew after him as he landed on his feet and kept running. She landed in front of him and they swung their weapons before clashing and jumping back. 

Ruby reloaded Cresent Rose with Lightning Dust and started firing away. Sonic dodged the projectiles and ran at him before swinging his sword. She swung her scythe and they clashed again.

Sonic: You can do better than that! Come on!

He goes for another swing and she dodges before swinging her scythe again. He blocks and is sent back as she fires another electric projectile. Sonic blocked it with a Lightning shield. He used the shield to attract and absorb any nearby rings and increase his Soul Gauge. As he did, Ruby appeared behind him and swung her scythe, breaking the shield and knocking him back. He landed on his feet as she went for another swing but he blocked it and kicked her back. He then got in a running position.

Sonic: Here we... GO!!!

He boosts at Ruby, running straight into her as they go through multiple trees within the forest. They were moving so fast that the air around them was being set ablaze as they were approaching a castle. Sonic made a sudden stop as Ruby flew through the castle doors. She slid on her feet as a bunch of knights ran away. Sonic stepped in with a smile and Ruby smiled back.

Ruby: Time to use the big guns!

She took out her Keystone as Sonic ran at her.

Sonic swung his sword and Ruby dodged it. She used the keystone to create a clone of Weiss who fired icicles at him. He ran across the walls and dodged them before running after her. The clone dashed back at Sonic and the two started clashing all over the castle. 

Ruby flew on top of a statue and turned Cresent Rose into a sniper. She reloaded her weapon with fire dust and aimed at them as they clashed. Once she got a good shot, she fired and they both jumped back as an explosion erupted between them. Once Weiss landed, she stabbed the ground and a bunch of ice spikes sprouted up toward Sonic, who jumped to the side to dodge them. 

He swung his sword at Ruby and created a shockwave projectile. Ruby quickly jumped off the statue that got sliced in half by the shockwave. She started flying around and firing explosive rounds at Sonic who was dodging all of them before Weiss came and went to thrust her sword. He quickly blocked her strike and she jumped up before summoning a giant ice sword down at him. Time slowed down as he dodged the attack and ran up the sword, jumping toward Weiss and cutting her in half. The clone immediately disappeared as Sonic landed on his feet.

Sonic: Hehe. 

Ruby: Try laughing at this!

Ruby dashed at Sonic, turning her gun into a scythe and swinging it. Sonic jumped over Ruby's strike as she used her Keystone to create a clone of Blake, who kicked Sonic away. He recovered and slid onto his feet, but Blake was giving him no time to rest. She went for two upward swings that sent energy slashes at him. He dodged them and ran at her as she swung her katana. He was too fast and cut her in half as well.

Caliburn: Sonic, above you!

He looked up to see Ruby flying down and swinging her scythe. Sonic quickly blocked her swing as she pulled the trigger on Cresent Rose and fired an explosive round in his face, setting him flying back. He crashed into a wall but managed to get himself up.

Caliburn: Fool! I told you to be careful in your approach!

Sonic: Heh, I got this! 

As he said this, Ruby used the Keystone to create a clone of her sister, Yang. The two dashed at Sonic together and he ran at them in return. Yang went for a punch but Sonic slid under it and swung his sword at Ruby. She blocked the strike and swung her scythe but he jumped out of the way to dodge it. Yang then started punching the air and sending tons of projectiles flying at him. 

Sonic dodged them only for Ruby to come flying down with a strike of her own. Sonic swung his sword and the two of them clashed, allowing Yang an opening to punch him and knock him back. He swung his sword at her as Yang swung her fist and they clashed.

Ruby: Ready... GO!!!

Ruby went for another Pelat Burst, slashing at Sonic. Once she was behind him several more strikes hit all over his body. Yang then hit him with an uppercut that sent him flying into the air. She ran toward Ruby, who gave her a boost and sent her flying up above Sonic. He saw the clone above him and went to prepare to block as Yang went for a flaming punch that shattered Caliburn and sent Sonic crashing into the ground. Yang landed right behind Ruby who pouted a bit.

Ruby: Aw man, the sword broke. 

Despite this, Sonic kept going. He went for a lightspeed attack that went straight through Yang and he was going for a direct shot towards Ruby. She quickly blocked it and knocked him back. He went for a kick but she ducked under it.

Ruby: Petal Dance!

She started striking Sonic with a combo of scythe swings.

Ruby: It's over!

She kicked him back towards his broken blade, knocking him down. Sonic grabbed the broken blade and slowly stood right back up.

Sonic: Not yet... I'm not giving up just yet. After all... a knight... never flees... his foe!

Sonic started to glow as his transformation began. Golden armor clad his body as he was wearing a red cape. Calibun was immediately repaired stronger than ever, turning into Excalibur as Sonic has become Excalibur Sonic.

Ruby: So cool! That indestructible armor and a sword that could probably cut through anything! Who are you?!

Sonic: I'm Sonic! Knight of the Wind!

As he said this, Ruby threw the Keystone into the air and it transformed into its true form, System XX.

Caliburn: So that voice was actually the Keystone itself. Alright Knave, let's do this.

The system created clones of Yu, Hyde, and Ragna, all of whom dashed at Sonic and swung their swords. He cut straight through them and flew at System XX, but Ruby got in the way and swung her scythe. Sonic swung Excalibur and the two heroes clashed. Sonic pushed Ruby back as System XX was charging something up.

Caliburn: Something's coming!

Multiple red pillars then unleashed from the ground, creating a massive explosion that destroyed the whole castle. 

Out of the debris of the explosion came Ruby, riding System XX while being chased by Excalibur Sonic.

Ruby: Fire!

System XX fired a massive sword at Sonic. He swung his own sword and sent it flying away. As soon as he did, Ruby flew at him and swung her Scythe. He blocked her strike and kicked her back into the forest, sending her through multiple trees. System XX then swung a massive sword at Sonic that he blocked, though he was still sent crashing into the ground. 

The system then unleashed a huge burst of lightning down on him, but it was ineffective so she summoned a massive chunk of ice to fall down on him. Before it did, Sonic flew up into the air and swung his sword, cutting the ice meteor in two before flying toward System XX and swinging.

System XX: Changing coordinates.

She teleported behind him before he could cut her, and then unleashed a huge burst of fire. Sonic quickly flew around it and swung his sword again at System XX, this time cutting it in half before flying towards Ruby. She looked up and saw Sonic coming after her. before he could swing his sword, she quickly used her Silver Eyes and blinded him, giving her just enough time to teleport above him and swing her Scythe, slamming Sonic's head into the ground before throwing him across the forest.

He caught himself as she flew after him. The two of them started clashing across the forest at speeds faster than the eye could see. Eventually, Ruby is sent flying across the forest. She loads her scythe with gravity dust and propels herself back towards Sonic. They swing their weapons and clash, creating a shockwave and knocking each other back. 

Ruby: Wow, even your speed has increased by a ton! This is so cool, I never fought a real knight before! No offense to Jaune of course. Oh hey, when we're done, can I hold your sword?!

Sonic; If you think you can beat me!

Ruby: Alright, bring it on! 

Caliburn: Excuse me, I did not agree to-

Sonic dashed at her and she loaded Cresent Rose with lightning dust. She turned her scythe into a sniper and shot him in the head, causing him to go spinning toward her. She then turned her gun back into a scythe and swung it, launching Sonic through trees. He caught himself mid-air and Ruby replaced her ammo with Fire dust, launching explosive rounds. Sonic dodged them all and flew at her, swinging his sword. She jumped up to dodge and kicked him in the face before going for an upward slash, but still couldn't pierce the armor.

Ruby: Cresent Rose, give me strength!

Sonic dashed at her and trusted his sword but Ruby dodged it, hooking Sonic with the blade of her Scythe and launching them both into the air. 

Ruby: My Ultimate Move... Red Reaper!

She kept using the recoil of Cresent Rose to propel them higher and higher before flipping upside down.

Ruby: You're finished!

She tried to use one final shot to decapitate him, but instead Cresent Rose shattered into pieces. She started to fall and Sonic flew down after her. Excalibur glowed and he went for a final swing.

Sonic: My turn! Take this!

He swung his sword and broke straight through her aura, slashing through her chest as well. Once he landed he reverted back to his base form and caught Ruby. He laid her on the ground peacefully and stabbed his sword into the ground before looking up at the sunset.

Junko: Now that... that was pretty good.

Kokonoe: Since we were doing this using Blazblue's version of Ruby, let's go over this one at a time.

Junko: As far as strength is concerned, Ruby's scaling to Persona and all the damage her semblance could take even from people who should be able to break it permanently makes her much stronger and more durable than Sonic's base form. Though Excalibur kinda trumps her in that category, especially with his indestructible armor.

Ann: Surprisingly, Ruby is much faster than Sonic's own base form... thanks to scaling to other series like Persona and Blazblue. She could easily blitz Sonic if she really wanted to. But once again, Excalibur closes that gap. There's a chance Ruby could still be slightly faster, but it's safe to say they're even.

Junko: In terms of using their weapons, Ruby should be superior... She's trained her whole life while Sonic has less experience when using a sword. But Sonic has fought much more experienced swordsmen in the past. And considering Ruby is... well Ruby, it's safe to say she's completely powerless without her Scythe whereas Sonic can fight with or without it.

Ann: Yeah, Ruby might be older but Sonic has far more experience than she does. And with his shields, he has counters to just about all of Ruby's dust bullets. Even Excalibur Sonic should be enough to break through barriers like her aura. 

Junko: Yeah, her aura was way tougher than the original Ruby's, but it wasn't invincible. Strong enough blows can break it and Excalibur is capable of just that. In the meantime, Ruby had no answer to Sonic's armor. In the end, Sonic rose up and Ruby was just too slow to live another knight.

Kokonoe: The winner is Sonic the Hedgehog.

Neptune's Trivia: Battle #171

Connections- Both are speedsters who have been brought to another world (Camelot and the Phantom Field). In these worlds, they are tricked by the main antagonist (Merlina and System XX) into collecting certain artifacts (Excalibur's Scabbard and the Keystones). After retrieving the artifact in question, both realize they have been tricked and take on the antagonist with the help of their friends. (For Sonic it was Sir Lancelot, Sir Gawain, and Sir Percival. For Ruby it was Weiss, Blake, and Yang). After defeating the antagonist they end up making the antagonist see the error of their ways and make them switch sides

      *This matchup also has a red vs blue theme.

       *It is also used to celebrate 5 years since Etna's first fanfic on Wattpad was Sonic and RWBY

-This fight was going to be the series finale but that was changed.

       *In fact, the finale was changed 5 times 

-The entire battle was made while sick

-It also took a whole year to decide what version of Sonic and what version of Ruby we should use

-Originally Shadow, Silver, and Blaze were also going to make an appearance to face Yang, Blake, and Weiss, but we did not have time to add them
