Gravity's Special Note #2 - The first poem I ever wrote

The first poem I ever wrote was when I was, believe it or not, 5 years old. It was in my grandparents' house, which I was visiting during my school summer vacation.

My grandfather loves gardening. He grows everything, from pretty flowers to day to day vegetables, how much ever he can fit in the backyard and around the front porch. It fascinated me, so I told him I wanted to plant a seed too. He laughed and got out a tamarind seed from the kitchen and gave it to me. Then he showed me how to dig a hole and plant it in a flower pot. After finishing I was so happy, I was jumping around the house which my mother got tired of. Then she asked me to express my happiness by writing a rhyme or poem instead.

And I easily agreed to that. After about an hour of rigorous thinking and spelling mistakes, I came up with this four-lined masterpiece -

My dear Tamarind tree,

Grow up and be free,

I want to see you,

A cat climbs on you and says meow.

I know the last line is pretty random but I was literally a kid so that's okay lol. The 5-year old girl who wrote this just wanted her tree to grow up and be free from people who cut trees.

To end Gravity's Special Note #2 on a good note, I'm gonna give an update on the tamarind tree. Two years after it was planted, it was shifted from the pot to a near by missionary school because it couldn't fit inside it anymore.

*cue tears of a happy mom*

My grandfather prized it so much, he almost gave that tree a farewell party.

It's still fully protected in the school now, and as free as it can be. The only thing I feel bad about is that I still haven't seen a cat climb on that tree. There are loads of monkeys, though.

*le sigh*

I hope I will see it happen one day.

For now,

signing off,

Gravity :)
