Jared Kleinman was adopted.
He had one adoptive dad.

He had never met his parents. He acted like he didn't even care, but deep down, it tore him apart.
He thought that they probably just didn't want him. He was a waste of time, money, and love.

It was Mother's Day. Jared had spent his morning with Evan and Heidi. They were at brunch.

"So Jared, I know that you and Evan are dating and stuff, but why aren't you spending Mother's Day with your mom?"
Heidi asked.

Jared froze and Evan was quick to respond,
"Mom, he's adopted and he only has one adoptive father. He's never met his birth parents."

Heidi looked guilty.
"Hey it's fine, I'm fine. I don't need to meet them. It doesn't matter."
Jared said, unconvincingly.

"But you're nineteen. Legally, nothing is stopping you from finding them."
Heidi informed.

Jared looked down and spoke,
"I've... I've just always been too nervous. There's a reason they put me up for adoption. What if they hate me when they meet me? What if they think I'm terrible?"

Evan was quick to take his hand and comfort his boyfriend,
"Jared, no one could ever truly hate you. Especially your parents. I'm sure they'll love you just as much as I do, if that's even possible."

Jared smiled.
"Ok. Thank you babe"
Despite Jared assuring that he felt fine, he still had his insecurities about meeting his birth parents.

After they found the address where his birth mom lived, they were off. Heidi was at the wheel and the two boyfriends were in the back.

Heidi pulled up to a run down building. She wished the boys luck as they got out of the car.

They walked up and opened the door, revealing stairs leading to various doors. Evan looked at the address once more and walked up to the corresponding door.

They knocked, waiting.
A woman with long brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a croptop and short booty shorts appeared in the doorway.

"Are you my clients? I'm sorry but y'all look awfully young."
The woman spoke with a slight southern accent.

The two nineteen year olds just looked at her confused.
Jared spoke,
"Are you Karma Finny?"

The woman nodded,
"The one and only"

Jared looked nervous as he swallowed the lump in his throat before speaking again,
"I-I'm your... I'm your son. I came to find you"

Karma looked shocked.
"Nineteen years... Duke, my little baby Duke. I love you sweetheart. Trust me. It's not your fault. I wish so badly that I could've raised you."
She cried.

"Mom, why? I want to know"
Jared asked.

"I got kicked out of my parents' house when I was 18. I couldn't afford to go to college. I couldn't afford a house or food. I turned to prostitution. Almost every day, I was throwing my dignity away. I threw away all of my morals. I finally could afford an apartment and food and clothes. But when I got pregnant at age nineteen, I knew I couldn't afford a child. I knew that a life of poorness and where your mother is a lowly prostitute is no life a child should have. Oh, I wanted to raise you so badly. I love you Dukie. You're so handsome bud! It seems like you've been raised right."

Jared chuckled,
"Yeah I have a pretty good dad, but I don't have an adoptive mother. It's okay I've just always wanted to meet you. My name is Jared now. I have this adorable boy here as my great supportive boyfriend. It's just, I've had this hole in my heart that now feels filled."
He smiled, holding his lover's hand.

"That's good sweetie. I'm so proud of you Du-I mean Jared. Well I probably have to get ready for my new client who should be coming soon, but stop by anytime as long as you give me a ring beforehand."
Karma hugged her son and gave him a slip of paper with a number on it.

Evan and Jared left and told everything to Heidi.

"Just know that if you ever need a motherly figure and your mom's not available, you can always come to me."
Heidi ruffled Jared's hair.

"Yeah, and I'm always here for you too."
Evan kissed him.

"Thank you guys. Thank you so much."
