Here are some things you need to be aware of

1. I want to try to write as calmly as I can but there are going to be some sections where I am going to get very angry. There will be cussing and a lot of disorganized thoughts. I'm usually friendly and passive about things but I've had enough of the constant mistreatment of people who use Wattpad.

2. I'm aware that what I say will most likely not reach any CEOs of Wattpad or create changes but I would be doing a disservice to everyone by writing a chapter in my vent book and calling it a day.

3. There is going to be bias since I grew up using Wattpad as an outlet for making friends and escaping hardships in my life. I am 100% of the opinion that all the new updates are more harmful than good.

4. If this book is removed or taken down then it means that
A. I have no reason to keep it around
B. Wattpad took it down and proved my point

5. I know theres LOADS of grammar issues. Its 12AM. I'm too lazy to fix em

Ok. I'm going to say this as calmly as I can.

I am fucking pissed off with Wattpad. One of my friends tagged me to a post that basically said that in May they are going to take down PMs. For whatever reason , I'm not sure. It could be to prevent drama or some other reason but I know without a shadow of a doubt that it won't fix anything. It's going to make people furious. Hell , people ARE furious about this. Wattpad nowadays feels so controlling.

They recently made an update to the guidelines and instead of them fixing the system , they doubled down by adding more rules. Some of the rules make sense such as graphic underaged s/x ( people can debate highschoolers and teen Y/N fanfics but I'm not going to delve into it ) but the thing that sucks is their lack of awareness that the books they flag are 9/10 times normal stories that are flagged for the wrong reasons.

Numerous writers have tried to get them back but Wattpad constantly ignores them.

" If you leave a email or message claiming that your book was falsely removed , it will be looked over to determine if the story will be back on the platform "

Yeah right. As if there aren't dozens of emails that are left ignored because you don't want to take responsibility for wrongly accusing stories of breaking your rules. This is annoying because they literally destroyed the whole purpose of the " Mature " tag. This also leeks into the death of media literacy but I'll

Another problem I want to bring up is the stupid coin system and the takeover of ads. It's fine if Wattpad wants to have ads and monetize itself , ads have always been on Wattpad. The problem lies in how much stuff is ruined by the coin and Wattpad premium. Wattpad , at least for me , has always been about community. Specifically , it's been about fandoms and fans finding a place to belong.

This leads to the thing that angers me the most. Wattpad has forgotten who has made them popular to begin with. The fanfic writers , the roleplayers , the art book artists. They are a HUGE part of Wattpad's identity. This is why so many people are leaving Wattpad. We don't feel like we have a say in the rules and updates Wattpad makes. Again , I know I'm biased since I grew up on the fanfic side of Wattpad but nowadays I can BARELY find ANYTHING related to roleplays and x reader fanfics. I see a lot of professional romance/drama books but never anything fanmade.

I can't put my word on it but the PM thing was the last straw. First , you take away the news feed , then you increase ads , then you reinforce guidelines that are broken and now you're removing the only way to talk privately.

I'm not gonna leave Wattpad but at the same time , I can see why people are constantly leaving. Until Wattpad can actually fix their guidelines , more people are going to think negatively of Wattpad.
