Laying next to an open window, Gidget sighed deeply. Her heart ached whenever Max crossed her mind. The Pomeranian had a crush on the Jack Russell terrier ever since she moved from the Bronx. The moment she laid eyes on him, she knew that not even death could keep them apart. It was their destiny to be together.

Just then, Gidget heard voices over in Max's apartment. Max must be home, she remarked as she looked across the street. However, she found Max's friends Chloe, Buddy, Mel, Sweetpea and Pepe in the terrier's apartment instead. Confuzzled, she called over, "Guys, what's wrong?"

"Oh, hi Gidget! Uh, nothing's wrong, except..." Buddy answered Gidget's call, adding quietly, "We don't exactly know where Max and Duke are at this very moment." Gasping, Gidget cried, "Max is gone?!"
